Hiking Weekdays in PAView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 34 of 34 messages posted.
Lyndy made me post this :O “As my regular days off are Monday afternoon to wedsday evening I do most of my hiking solo. Much as I enjoy the intelligent conversation the silence has been a bit deafening lately so... who's up for some mid-week hiking in PA? I usually do 10 miles a day and I havent had a partner lost or killed in the last two years that any one knows about. I am LNT,LMH, and hydration compatable. Will do maintenace for company :} (inspite of the humor I am being serious too.)” 3:18:24 AM 5/23/03 “DOM, I can sometimes go during the week. I know next week will not work for me since a few things already came up that will not allow me to get out next week. Post what you are planning to do and I will do my best to try and make the trip.” 6:16:21 AM 5/23/03 “I can sometimes make a midweek hike if my husband can get the kids to school and then come home a little early. I have bronchitis right now but when I recover I will try to hike with you and Rich. Thanks for taking my advice, DOM!” 7:08:12 AM 5/23/03 “Lyndy, Hope you feel better soon. The pollen around here has been terrible for allergies.” 7:11:35 AM 5/23/03 “It's true, my husband just got back from Houston, and he said he was fine until he got to the airport and then he got all stuffed up again. My whole family is suffering, the kleenex boxes are emptying fast. Hopefully it won't be this bad for a whole month.” 7:36:23 AM 5/23/03 “I went for a hike the other day and when I looked down at my boots they were all yellow with pollen grains. You could smell it in the air from all the plants flowering. The wildflowers are nice though.” 7:49:55 AM 5/23/03 “As I said im off from monday noon to weds. evening and with 2 or more shuttling is possible. That allows up to 30 miles of trail with two nights. I have done most of the bft and aft and all the local trails here so... maybe a section hike of the mid state would work(i have 95 map set). I can get week days off easily as there are enough people to cover it but weekends arent even negotiable. Since its just me I am pretty much able to go on an hours notice. Any week, any trail :} did I mention that Im very easy to get along with.... mst by sections? warrior trail? if your interested in my locals: laurel highlands 70 Jp Saylor 12 or 18 lost turkey 26 rager mountain 5” 8:48:25 AM 5/23/03 “Sounds good, I haven't done the midstate trail at all yet.” 8:57:01 AM 5/23/03 “And Rich, my boots are covered in pollen too. The weekends have been so busy with the kids lately that a weekday trip might become more likely than weekend ones, during the school year at least.” 9:03:32 AM 5/23/03 you know... “I was recently looking at now hiking boots...saw some YELLOW italian made Scarpas...real heavy duty jobbys...I was actually contemplating getting them...and changing my trail name to "Bombadill"...then I thought...no...I'm no Tom Bombadill...thats Crazy Mike...he needs to wear the big yellow boots...I shall remain Stikmon... Pollen season is done here in SE missouri...my purple rav looked yellow one morning...I had to wash it off before coming to work. Things are diminishing here on the pollen count. Have fun..allegra works real good.” 10:35:40 AM 5/23/03 “Thanks. Allegra, Flonase, Guaifenesin, Ibuprofen, hot tea. I'm taking just about everything except antibiotics but it takes time to clear my lungs. The rain has helped alot to wash the air clean.” 1:17:22 PM 5/23/03 “The rain is good for washing away the pollen. I hope we get a good inch at least for tomorrow. DOM, Did you ever hike the section of the mid state trail between Little Pine State park and Blackwell? When we were on the West Rim trail last year it looked like there were some nice mountains over there that would make for a good hike.” 6:25:18 PM 5/23/03 “I havent gotten on any of the mid state. I know the mountain your refering to but the mst is on the other side of it. a large chunk of it runs on the ridge of tussey mountain.(then again if I had to navigate from memory, we'd end up in WV :} the trail seems very section-able in roughly 20 mile segments. I will dig up the sections and post them.” 2:32:27 AM 5/24/03 “got em : 1. us22 - pa26 20 miles 2. pa26 - us322 25.2 miles 3. us322 - pa45 27.2 miles 4. pa45 - pa192 11.3 miles 5. pa192 - pa880 19.9 miles 6. pa880 - pa150 13.5 miles 7. pa150 - pa44 12.8 miles 8. pa44 - sr4001 12.7 miles 9. sr4001 - pa414 25.3 miles 10. pa414 - west rim trail 2.4 looks like I goofed, it seems to swap mountains somewhere along the way. sections 4+5(31) and 6+7+8(38) could be combined depending on time or dayhiked.” 2:34:16 AM 5/25/03 “I need to look at a map to check it out a little more. I think section 9 goes through a part of state gamelands. Msilver has hiked part of it so I'll have to ask him for more details.” 5:46:57 AM 5/25/03 “Shall we call it a project? so long as we stay under 30 I can call it a weekend hike. Most of the trail heads are between 2 and 3 hours drive so a departure of 3pm on mon. would work well and a finish anytime on weds. is fine. how does section 1, meet at southern trailhead us22 10am 10 jun , shuttle to pa26 and overnight back to us22 sound? (maybe I should post this under the trip planner?)” 7:50:53 AM 5/25/03 “I have to get out the PA map and look at the US 22 to PA 26 section. What do you use in the way of hiking map for this area?” 12:48:33 PM 5/25/03 “I think that area is not far from State College. I did a bicycle trip in that area about 10 years ago, near Whipple Dam. June 10 is a Tuesday if I read my calendar right.” 7:21:58 PM 5/25/03 “I have a problem with the Monday June 9, my daughter's class picnic. I already volunteered to help. I am sorry, I will really try to make the next trip.” 9:12:55 PM 5/28/03 “That isn't looking good for me either. I'm signed up for the Pinchot trip that week. In June, unless it's the very end of the month, Monday's and Tuesdays are hard for me to make this month.” 6:50:45 AM 5/29/03 “So we already pooped out on DOM. Really, keep trying, we will hke with you, I promise!” 7:59:50 AM 5/29/03 “Its a good thing I usually like soloing but also a bit disappointing. Let me know if your scheduales clear up...” 2:44:05 AM 5/30/03 “I just got this really strange feeling, like I was standing in the middle of a petsmart wearing a chicken suit trying to get a date....” 5:33:21 AM 5/31/03 “DOM, don't give up trying to plan a trip. I just found out yesterday that I would be tied up for June 11 anyway so I wouldn't be able to go despite the Pinchot trip. It's just a timing thing and June is looking a little rough for me during the week. Is it possible that you could go for Tuesday afternoons and beyond. That's a lot easier for me to plan around.” 6:25:07 AM 5/31/03 “my normal days off are tue./wed. but i have to be back by 8pm wed. I can shift my days off a bit so long as its not a weekend involved. I never give up, I just redirect my approach... like kidnapping. :}” 7:42:38 AM 5/31/03 “OK, I'm sure we can work something out down the road.” 7:46:06 AM 5/31/03 “is this the point where im supposed to slide the non descript suitcase full of money under the table and leave quietly? :D I just hope the weather for june improves some.” 8:15:04 AM 5/31/03 “Well Im off monday noon July 7, I havent decided where but if anyone is interested let me know....very flexible.” 4:15:37 AM 7/03/03 “Have a good hike and I hope someone can join you, DOM.” 1:32:20 PM 7/03/03 “I wish i could go :( I am off monday but gotta go do drug and alcohol testing for new job.” 1:38:04 PM 7/03/03 “no takers... :{ be sure to show them the right way to take drugs and alcohol,be sure and study for the test. ;}” 7:29:29 AM 7/06/03 “Good news! I passed the test and four damn interviews..all with the same company. The new tests are weird! they make you do the test in front of them and you both sign off negatives and positives before you leave the doc's. IT has five sticks that they dunk one says: Marijuana, cocaine, LSD, and the other two i didnt even know what kind of drugs they were. lol. I guess that means after a week of hiking I might test positive for oxygen...the new street drug that you have to travel farther and farther to import. lol” 7:33:15 AM 7/06/03 “I swear I wasn't nervous one little bit 7:35:50 AM 7/06/03 “Glad to hear it!” 7:44:09 AM 7/06/03
