I'd call it a dark comedy....
Birch and I got a great movie last night...Scotland, PA. It's a sundance movie starring Christopher Walkin, Maura Tierney and James Legros. Sort of a "MacBeth" based in the fast food world of the seventies.

I give it five stars and highly reccomend it. Great soundtrack too....

I rented that a couple of months ago. It was pretty good. Christopher Walken was excellent as usual.

Try "Collinwood" produced by Gearge Clooney. Good offbeat comedy.

I'd recommend Tape.

Sass - I rented that a while back too. Mainly cause C Walken was in it. Pretty twisted flick, eh? I really did enjoy it. Tho, I imagine many people won't. One of those "love it or hate it" movies.

I will have to check that out. I recommend American Movie or Tree's Lounge.

Tbull, seemed like a pretty classic tale to me. Wasn't overly gorey or anything.

I'll have to look into that,,

Checkout 'Bottle Rocket' Luke and Owen Wilson before they hit it big, 'Things to do in Denver when your Dead' has a great cast + Walken.

For all you Willy Wonka fans out there...

I heard that they're going to do a remake --- with TIM BURTON directing. You know... "Nightmare Before Christmas', "Edward Scissorhands"... Tim Burton?

Watched the Pianist today. Very depressing but a true testiment to the human spirit.

Sass - No, not too gorey at all. Just twisted, you know - a "Black Comedy". I just find many people don't like or just don't understand a movie like this. Personally, I loved it. I wouldn't recommend my dad watch it. lol

Tilt - I am NOT thrilled. Do they really think they can do better than Gene Wilder?

This weekend I saw the worst movie that I have seen in several years. The Ring blows. Was there a plot?

I'm looking forward to the release of Cold Mountain this Christmas.

My favorite rental movie was the British 1980 movie THE DOGS OF WAR also staring (a younger) Christopher Walken and Tom Berringer. What a coincidence.

ooo me too Dayhiker! I can't wait, although I am a bit concerned...it's awfully hard to match that book. The movie could well turn out to be a disaster. I can imagine Nicole Kidman playing what's her name's character well.

Briar Rabbit...Bottle Rocket is one of my favorites! Hill-freakin'-larious.

Here's a really disturbing and weird one: "Corn Dog Man" and "Limbo" was just plain good, except for the ending kinda catches one off guard....

Ban the new Willy Wonka!

Sass - I can't imagine Jude Law playing Inman. He's too much of a pretty boy. Hopefully they'll have him looking all scraggly like a real Confederate soldier at the end of the war. Suppossedly the period part of it was well done.

An Austrailian doing a Souther accent? Most folks in this country can't do it right, what makes them think wun of them thar forners kin doit? Nothing is more offensive to a Southerners ears than someone doing a Southern accent poorly. Either do it right or don't do it at all.

There's a great indie film that was produced by Kevin Smith (Dogma, Clerks) called "Vulger". It's a funny look at the life of down trodden clown.

Run, don't walk. It's a keeper.

Last night, our daughter (Twignut), asked Maple and I to watch a movie she rented and I am glad I did. It was a 1998 movie called, "Life Is Beautiful." It was up for best picture and won 3 of it's seven nominations, so perhaps some of you have heard of it. I can't believe that they were able to mix tragi-comedy elements into this story, half of which takes place in a concentration camp, but it was done and done effectively. I wholeheartedly recommend this film...

A friend of mine returned it without watching it because it was subtitled.

But, yes, it was excellent, I thought

I saw "Brotherhood of the Wolf" in the theater, and then rented the dubbed version - I prefer the subtitled one, although sometimes I miss what's going on in the movie cause I'm reading or vice versa. :)

Brotherhood is one of my all time favorites! Right up there with Crouching Tiger, 5th Element and Rocky Horror. Subtitled films are ojne the few times when you are almost guaranteed that some a hole won't be talking through the whole movie...unless of course they read aloud.

Willy Wonka... the plot thickens:
Weird reference, there, Dayhiker! <G>

First they say:
"Warner Bros. quickly issued a press release debunking the reports (they also had Tim Burton listed as directing, which he isn't)."

Then right after that:
"Director: Tim Burton (Sleepy Hollow, Ed Wood, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Planet of the Apes; next up before this will be Big Fish)"

And Later:
"And the winner is... exactly the guy one probably would have expected when you first heard they were making this remake: Tim Burton. Burton's flamboyant and dark visual style seems cookie-cutter made for this project."

Weirdness!

Interesting note on the Oompa-Loompas... that the people were living in poverty near the chocolate factory because Willy Wonka had 'imported' the Oompa-Loompas. Hmmmmm.

Those damn H-1B Visas Again!

Sorry the idea of this film pissed you guys off. I can only imagine if someone tried to re-do "2001".

(what the hell were those people thinking... re-doing "The Shining" with the guy from "Wings"???? LOLOL)

Rented 2 movies last night:

School of Rock, Jack Black turns a prep school room of 10 year olds into a rock band. Completely unbelievable plot but fun movie. Pretty good kid's movie.

Lost in Translation, Bill Murry is an over the hill ageing movie star making big bucks to make commercials in Japan. He and a lonely young wife (not his) start a bittersweet relationship.
Very interesting indie movie, not what you would expect from an SNL funny man. I understand why he was nominated for so many awards now.

I need a good idea for a movie rental tonight. I am just chillin at home by myself tonight. Thought I'd watch Scarface. What are some good movies? I've seen so many, most of the good'uns. Watched Full Metal Jacket recently. That movie rocks.

Matchstick Men- Nick Cage plays the funniest Obsessive Compulsive sufferer I’ve ever seen. His little ticks and noises are hilarious. It’s a great story with great twists and turns. Code word for this week is “Pigmies!”.

Duplex- Sometimes Jerry Stiller has wonder, “This little unfunny bastard came from my loins? I’ve seen Holocaust movies that were funnier! Serenity NOW!!!”. Unfunny. Worthless. Unbelievable.

Cold Creek Manor- This is a good movie but the previews they ran for it were very misleading. They made me think I was going to see a ghost movie but in fact the movie is about a yuppy family who leave the big city and tries to fit in with the “locals”.

Missing- It’s got Tommy Lee Jones. Nuff said. I don’t normally go for Indian type movies because they are so unbelievable but this one was good. Kate Banchette plays such a bltch in this movie I couldn’t help thinking, “Gawd, I’d hand her over to the Indians myself!”.

I forgot School of Rock. Stovie’s right about the story plot…old news! The bad guy uses kids but then becomes emotionally involved and the kids end up teaching HIM something new and he is a much less selfish person now. Blah blah phuckin’ blah! The only difference with this movie is that we JACK BLACK! Jack could recite from the phone book and it’d still be funny.
