“Nigal, what did you like about Miami Vice. I still can't decide if I liked it or not.
I found it really to be dark; scenes where hard to see, and the actors really didn't have much to say during the whole movie. [besides uh and ahhhh]

I liked it for all the reasons you gave for not caring for it. LOL! It was true to the show. Sometimes it is good in a movie where you have to put yourself in the character's mind to find what is going on rather than being given a neat and tidy plot line.

did you ever watch that russian vampire movie? how did you like it?

It was a touch long and I didn't care too much for the ending. It was cool though.

PHC boored me, and I have listened to PHC on the radio quite a bit.

The Devil's Rejects didn't make a lot of sense to me.

lmao... funny you mention that. A friend and I sat in camp last weekend reciting it.

That movie should go up for "Best Dialog". ;)

Little Miss Sunshine......
It was an extremely touching story and yet I laughed so hard I cried.
It was one of the best films I've seen in ages.

Also saw Barnyard. It was lame.

Yeah, Little Miss Sunshine was really good!

I was subjected to Anchorman over the weekend...massive suckage!! I'm cutting Tarpy off from the Netflix queue.

i think little miss sunshine is the best movie i have seen in a long time. it was a real "feel good" type of movie. the other move i really like is the departed. just when you thought the movie was ending it took another turn. great acting in both!

i wish something new would come out.

Over the weekend I watched "The Missing" (so, I'm a fan of Westerns, gonna make somethin' of it??); "Walk the Line" and the most recent "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Of those three, loved "Walk the Line." Then again, it takes me back to Sundays at my aunt and uncle's, listening to that Folsom Prison album on their big-@ss honkin' huge stereo console -- AND HATING IT WITH EVERY LIVING BREATH! LOL!

Made me like Johnny Cash in the long run, though. And ahhh, memories.

That's funny, "big-@ss honkin' huge stereo console" didn't return any goggle images. ;-)

We had one like this, lizs. It even was so up to date it had a 8 track player in it! ;-)
I remember HATING Johnny Cash myself. Then A Boy Named Sue came out and he was cool. LOL
That monster is still in my parents living room.

We had a big RCA like that as well Stovie. It would take a minute to warm up after turning it on. Biggest childhood thrill on a rainy day was playing 33's at 78 speed and vise/versa.

LOL, yeah, that's pretty close!

I don't recall if it was on that album or not (maybe they had TWO Johnny Cash albums... SAY WHAT??!?!? LOL)... my fav is Burning (not not bacon) Ring of Fire.

Borat
Alrighty, Birch and I watched this while the kid was at school today....

It was by far the most inappropriate, discriminatory, and movie I have ever seen and I've not laughed so hard in a long time. There were parts where I felt I should shield my eyes and yet I couldn't look away!

Shasha Coehen (sp?) is a fantastic actor. I have no idea how he kept a straight face during filming. It was well worth the $4. I'd watch it again.

Oh, sorry, I left out "demeaning." lol.
He covers everyone: Gays, Southerners, Christians, Muslims, lots of Jew-monster references (Sasha Bara Cohen is a Jew), um, people with nice manners, frat boys, Pam Anderson, lots of Gypsy bashing. It was too funny though. Oh, and there are testicles involved, along with other man-parts.

We watched Blood Diamonds last night. Boy, that was a feel good movie. I didn't feel like watching a movie last night but it was due today. I thought I'd just read while my wife watched the movie. I immediately got sucked in. It's amazing what millions and millions of people have to live through and subsist in. Very sad.

Blood Diamond
I watched it twice also before returning it; the second time with the director's dialog. The special features on the DVD showed the really difficult places they went in Africa to shoot this film. Amazing! Definitely not for the faint-hearted but an excellent film.

I watched Pan's Laberynth...still a great story and great effects. Must see even if subtitled.

I also saw Letters From Iwo Jima. This was a great movie too. I know it's gotten a lot of criticism because it tells the story from the Japanese side but still a great story.

It gave a very human element to the Japanese that is usually missing from most American stories.

It's pretty easy to demonize the opponent, especially when they are so different culturally. I do understand that slant though. The whole fight to the death, surrender is never an option is pretty, uh foreign (sorry for the pun) to us.

I actually enjoyed the Cruise flik, Last Sammuri, though if you bring up that I enjoyed a Cruise movie in public I'd have to deny it.

WHAHAHAHA...yeah the Japanese were sweet kind gentle people.....as long as you don't ask the Military who weren't captured by them, the men who were on the Death March, and ...oh yeah, the Civilians in Nanking.

It was a culture that made them do what they did. We have to remember it was centuries of programming that made them do what they did. And the hilarious part is that my Uncle told me in 1945 they were told we would NEVER change them.

XL - why must you always be an ass? I stated I read a good bit of Iwo books. I know what the Japanese did to our Marines. I've read about Bataan too. Centuries of programming IS how culture forms you idiot. I just said that I would enjoy seeing a movie that gave the perspective of the other side. Judging from your rants on feugo, I'd guess that's a foreign concept to you. I may not agree with another perspective, but I at least like hearing it.

To the Victor go the Spoils
Traditionally, history is always told from the perspective of the winner in any given conflict. World War II was no different. While it might have been inappropriate to humanize opposing propoganda during the war, that was over 60 years ago, and any propoganda from it is now nothing more than irrelevant.

That said, it's nice to see someone explore the other side of the story. Perhaps it could even provide better insight into why such conflicts occur.

On a side note, I got to meet a Bataan survivor in about 1990. He spoke at an ROTC thing when I was in school. If any of you have read "Ghost Soldiers," he's quoted liberally throughout the book.
