Okay gang, I've been looking and looking for an opportunity to volunteer doing anything Environmental Studies related but have beeb overwhelmed with the amount of information.

So, I live in NYC - am willing to commute - am not afraid to get dirty - am particularily interested in Wetland Conservation but would be happy with just about any hands-on envirnmental volunteer/intern work.

Help!

try going through Prospect Park. Brooklyn. they have a great volunteer program.
call the park and ask for Carol. She is the volunteer coordinator(sp)

Do you know anything about the Bronx Zoo's program - becoming a Friends of Wildlife Conservation volunteer?

WELL.......if your willing to travel i know a great place on the west coast that is well known for its wetland intership/volenteer programs...(hell i even volenteered there) The Arcata Wetlands/preserve/sewage tratement
they turned this old landfill into a wetlands that treats the towns sewage naturally through plants and bacteria. Makes a great place to watch birds and wild life too. :)

Twinks, try contacting this guy, I took his wetland delineation course a few months ago, he's probably got some insights for you:

The NYDEC should have something for you such as trail maintenance and improvement in the parks. Just an idea.

Thought I'd let you guys know that my round of emails to every water-related environmental organization in NYC has started to pay off! I have received three emails, so far, from three terrific organizations that want me to volunteer with them! I'm so stoked! One of the three is absolutely perfect for me too!
