Montgomery Bell State Park this weekend
For anyone looking for a trip close to Nashville this weekend, come on over to Montgomery Bell with Katibug, Father Goose, Mother Goose, and Yam. We'll meet at noon at the Visitor Center and decide what trail we want to hike. We have the Hallspring campsite reserved. The trip is posted on the trip page. For questions or info., contact Katibug at Adelicia1@aol.com.

I wish I could go on this one, but there's a specific honeydo I must get done this weekend. Otherwise I might.

What can I say? Summer is approaching, and my "honeydo list" has been gathering dust all through allergy season.

If I had my druthers, I'd hike every weekend. But family and what my better half wants takes precedence...

mtnman-
I agree with you that the trails at MB are not super long. I planned this hike for MB because I have a family reunion going on there this weekend. I need to show up Sat. morning for breakfast with my family. I've been doing some hearty hiking lately and a shorter hike will make for an easier weekend. Besides, we need time to catch up with everyone around camp!

don't expect to sleep in the shelter. When we went earlier this yr all the bunks at this shelter were torn up. Bring that tent!!

Sorry I will miss you guys but I have to work the next 2 weekends to pay for a new tent and sleeping bag I ordered yesterday.

As long as you can get outside its all good, just pointing out its not a hikers paradise, nice walk from the campground over to the lake/lodge. You can rent canoes at the lodge and paddle the lake, We camp at MB a couple of times a year, always take the dogs over to the lake to swim.

I'm getting ready to head out to Montgomery Bell. The number of folks indicating that they're coming on this trip are 7. For anyone interested, I'm car camping tonight at the Montgomery Bell campground. If anyone wants to drive up tonight, feel free to join me. Otherwise, I'll see you at noon tomorrow at the Visitor Center.

Trip Report
I met up with the group on Saturday around Noon. I was the last one to show up. hehehe We all got ready and hiked into the woods. The trail was a nice combination of pine, hardwoods, and rolling hills. We arrived at camp early in the afternoon and most of us took advantage of the extra time to take a nice relaxing nap.

Supper was fun because it's always interesting to see what everyone else is having for supper...the campfire was great too as well as the company.

I placed my bivy next to a creek and enjoyed listening to the babbling noises...they put me to sleep. Also, the fireflies were out in full strength and I enjoyed watching them and looking at the stars.

The next morning we had breakfast and packed up our gear. The hike back to the trailhead was similar to the previous days hike but with some nice views of the local lake thrown in.

Thanks for the fun everyone!!

The hikers were: Me, Katibug, Keith, Father/Mother Goose, Yam, and Joe.

Katibug is the sweetest thing!

Thanks, MDSHiker, for your trail report and kind compliment. You are a very pleasant person as well! Keith and I had a great time. Although the hike was short the total experience being there with everyone was terrific! A really enjoyable weekend and fabulous company. It was very nice to see Father and Mother Goose and Yam again and to make new friends with Joe and Michael. The weather was nice. Hope to see you all again soon. :)

Tick Story from the Trip
Ok, so I'm walking thru WalMart yesterday afternoon looking for some pool chemicals and stuff. All of a sudden I get this terrible pain on my butt. It feels like some yard ape is standing behind me and sticking me with a needle.

So, I turn around and there's no kid there. Well, I don't want to look like a total redneck (like everyone else there) and start scratching my butt...so I hold off and keep walking wondering what in the heck is sticking in me!!!

After a while I can't take it anymore and just pray that the security camera dudes aren't watching me...I stop walking and scratch my butt a few times and the pain finally goes away.

WELL, I was drying off this morning after taking my shower and felt a large bump on my butt. I go to the mirror and turn around only to find a "TICK" on my butt. Have you ever tried to take a tick off a hairy butt? Well, it's not easy...especially by yourself. So, after tugging and pulling and contorting my body for about ten minutes (and using mirrors) I finally get the dang thing off my butt.

Blah!!

It's weird.. but I have never had a tick actually embedded.. I always seem to sense them WALKing on me.. and get them early. I hate the danged things tho.. I swear.. once the ticks come out.. I don't want to go near the woods.

:)..

We need to call WalMart tho.. and see if we can get a copy of the security video.

Sorry to hear of your tick situation. However, your story made me laugh so hard that I got tears in my eyes! I agree with Towndawg-we need to get the video from Walmart!

OH MY EYES, MY EYES!!!

Have you ever heard the song "A Hairy @ss" (sung to the tune of "Aquarius") by Sean Morey???

Sorry to hear of your hitchhiker there, MDS (stifles violent paroxysms of hysterical laughter). I, fortunately, seem to have escaped from the woods unscathed.

You remember me mentioning that new trail names are thought up for folks? I'm thinking that we need to award you with a new trail name! I am now taking suggestions from the group!
