We painted our old war horse canoe. It ended up looking worse after using it a few times. That krylon fusion paint's supposed to hold up really well though.” 9:14:41 AM 8/30/04 “the price on the new Carolina is 1049.00 with rudder, that is an increase since Friday, glad mine was on sale when I bought it. Super Troll you got a heck of a deal esp with what the new price is” 9:15:26 AM 8/30/04 SuperTroll “The filters at work striped the photos off the email. I will not be able to see then til I get home tonight.” 9:19:01 AM 8/30/04 Stove Stomper/Ewker “Got pics of a Croc in Cross Lake with a WHOLE Deer in his mouth...LOL...post them when ya can ok?” 9:22:00 AM 8/30/04 HAD to be a Croc right...? “An Alligator would not be that big...surely?...LMAO” 9:23:28 AM 8/30/04 “note to self, no swimming at Cross Lake no matter how nice it looks” 9:42:04 AM 8/30/04 9:51:42 AM 8/30/04 “damn!” 9:58:32 AM 8/30/04 “Holy cow! That's gotta be one of those tiny little Florida deer right?” 12:02:55 PM 8/30/04 “Sass, that pic was taken in Shreveport, La. Super Troll emailed it to me so I had to post it.” 12:07:58 PM 8/30/04 web sites 3:24:28 PM 8/30/04 I'm confused “Here I go and buy a kayak, and a very pretty one too, and I'm all excited, and I thought you would all be excited too, and then we could all be excited together, but the interest has waned, oh how fickle are the peeps who post here, I feel so lonesome, I need someone to talk kayak to me low and sultry like, help me through the addiction to a place where My kayak and I are understood, where paddling and strap on stuff is spoken, where I can freely use words like cockpit and rollover... like crack, the whole experience has me in it's power, oh, I still love to backpack, but my new drug of choice is 14.5...screaming yellow....soon the DEA will be kicking in my door to coerce me into revealing the source i used to obtain my drug...I'm getting paranoid about the sensations, are they real, are they legal, will I be arrested, will my parents still love me when they find out, how will I live between fixes, oh go I have it bad I tell you BAAAAAAAAD!” 3:35:48 PM 8/31/04 “Easy man, breath deeply. Just wait til you start looking at the $3000 ones because you now want a 'better' yak. ;-)” 3:38:21 PM 8/31/04 Huh?... “Oh, gee thanks, there goes the house, the car, my credit card balances, I'll be hocking my silver to buy a sail kit, and it's JUST LIKE CRACK I TELL YA!.....soon I'll be selling myself fer the price of a fix...'waaaaah!” 3:42:04 PM 8/31/04 “chined hull.....secondary stability.....paddle stroke.....gunwhale..... Talk gear to me baby Better ST?” 3:49:27 PM 8/31/04 “LOL dhutch, you dirty girl you. hey, supertroll, (www.paddling.net), check it out.” 3:53:59 PM 8/31/04 will be... “...after the need to surf every known kayak site on the web subsides...lol” 3:55:21 PM 8/31/04 “Kayaking rules the world. I wanna belong to this elite TT paddling club. I'm clickish. Watch for some articles and photos from me to be in Sea Kayaker and Paddler magazines. Soon I'm gonna whore myself out and make $$ off wilderness adventures. Life rocks®.” 4:00:20 PM 8/31/04 “great thread..... of course I need to buy a car to carry the thing before I get one.” 4:03:17 PM 8/31/04 “I can not imagine wanting a $3000 kayak. I have heard the poly kayaks refered to as a good beginner kayak. What exactly defines a beginner kayak and an advanced kayak. Please tell me that it is not about ability. You know, the ability to pay for a more expensive one.” 5:42:20 PM 8/31/04 “The tupperware yaks are fine, even sometimes preferred, over the fiberglass or kevlar. They're heavier and not quite as effecient, but you can bash the crap out of them on an expedition and they don't break. I paddle a Prijon Kodiak and I love it.” 5:55:00 PM 8/31/04 “Birch was telling me about a super cool get away we could do for out tenth anniversary possibly. "The coolest thing ever", "Ten days away in Wisconsin, in some dudes barn, building our own kayaks!" "The price includes all the materials!". Where oh where has the romance gone? ;)” 11:43:36 PM 8/31/04 Super Troll “here is an online magazine about kayaking you can read. Also there is a good article about kayaking Lake Superior Adventure Kayak” 9:04:13 AM 9/01/04 Ah..... “Thanks Ewker...will you have your boat for this weekend?...” 9:29:53 AM 9/01/04 “the kayak is suppose to arrive Friday but I will be out of town for the weekend. I will get to see it Tuesday when I get back. Hopefully I can get it out that week.” 10:20:57 AM 9/01/04 “LOL @ Sassafras ! Thanks for the idea !! ;)” 12:10:58 PM 9/01/04 “Hey SuperTroll...have you been to the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge to kayak yet? Just wondering, I've never been there and I've lived around H'ville my whole friggin life.” 9:23:33 PM 9/01/04 MDS... “In my canoe days I explored parts of the refuge, I intend to revisit them with the kayak. There are many areas here in the northern half of the state I intend to visit short term, like the Sipsey, the Elk river, The Flint River, The Tennessee River and assorted lakes...(I'm gonna be a BIZZZZY Boy...LOL).” 8:51:58 AM 9/02/04 “hahaha Yeah, I hear ya...I live about 5 minutes from the Flint River and it can be a lot of fun. Probably gonna float down it this weekend.” 11:25:09 AM 9/02/04 “When I get the urge to talk dirty kayak I go to paddling.net and tell them I sit-on-top without protection. The snobs over there get quite offended.” 10:56:13 PM 9/02/04 “I go over to paddling.net just for fun and ask dumb questions. Talk about anal! They pull out knifes over rudder vs skegs. ;-)” 11:04:16 PM 9/02/04 Kayaking stuff “So, I got the skirt, a paddle, a SPARE paddle, a bilge pump, waterproof bags galore, a paddle tether, (let's not forget a throw bag and a firstaid kit), a Type III PFD, and small Airhorn fer good measure... Am I missing anything you'd all call essential equipment? (I'm also carrying a few other things each time I go out, like a map & compass, cell & spare battery, duct tape, chem lights, [red, green, and white],a lighter, a change of clothes and a silponcho tarp. I got an umbrella velcroed to the camelback strapped up close on the front deck fer water). So where's the ten essentials list for kayaking?” 3:05:15 PM 9/07/04 “you need about 87 more chem lights.” 7:30:40 PM 9/07/04 “Go to the local hardware store and buy the biggest, least expensive sponge you can find. Helps with what the bilge pump misses, also is nice for cleaning the grit out of your cockpit after a paddle.” 11:20:24 PM 9/07/04 “Oh, and go get yourself hardware for deckline. The Carolina is lacking good deckline. The elastic stuff won't help you empty or get back into your boat.” 11:21:46 PM 9/07/04 “a grout sponge works best and can be bought in a 2-pack.” 6:54:17 AM 9/08/04 Pack Towel “I have the large commercial version of the pack Towel, in a thicker material, folded it is about the size of a thick sponge, and it absorbs lots of water... The deck lines idea really is a good one, though I think I'll ADD a stiff nylon line to the existing bungie... Oh, and Rad...If'n ya knew how many chem lights I already have your eyes would bug out...I work for the Department of Defense remember?...(Red/green/white are for running lights in case I get caught out after sunset...)” 8:34:59 AM 9/08/04 Thinking about planning a trip for this summer “In the boundary waters with my dad!! He has always wanted to go up there and since I am a backpacker not a Kayaker I know nothing about Kayaking but i am super interesed!! So here is the question I am starting my research for the trip now so I can all the stuff taken care of! I would like recomndations for areas, outfitters, part of the year and any and all other random bits of advice? Thank You” 11:02:36 AM 9/08/04 “"Go to the local hardware store and buy the biggest, least expensive sponge you can find. Helps with what the bilge pump misses, also is nice for cleaning the grit out of your cockpit after a paddle." I use a shammy(SP?) cloth. I can just spread it out on the bottom and it soaks up anything that may collect down there. Do you find you need the pump often?” 3:47:46 PM 9/08/04 “Nigal, my wifes pumping habits are really none of your durn business LOL!” 8:17:41 PM 9/08/04 “Makes me miss my old SOT that self-bailed real well. The 10 essentials for that boat were a paddle...........uh, sun!............and sun glasses! How many was that?” 10:29:00 PM 9/08/04 “I find I need the pump everytime I practice rescues. I imagine when we start hitting the Great Lakes we'll be doing them for real occasionally.” 11:20:20 PM 9/08/04 Canoe/kayak trip coming up next month “I will be heading up the 2nd of October and will be there through the 9th. If interested this is the web site for more information. http://www.paddling.net/message/showThread.html?fid=meet&tid=229701” 11:53:41 PM 9/08/04 Super Troll 8:14:12 AM 9/10/04 “ok got my kayak, problem is it won't go where I wanted to store it. Now I have a kayak sitting in my living/dining room. Not sure how many times a night I have to step over it. Anyone used the storage system where you hang/suspend it from the ceiling?” 10:38:50 AM 9/10/04 “Those dang doors and hallways suck, don't they Eddy? ;-)” 4:30:20 PM 9/10/04 “anyone ever kayak or canoe Santeetlah Lake in Western NC. Looks like I will be going there in a couple weeks.” 10:55:33 AM 10/12/04 “It's about time you get that kayak christened Ewk! ;)” 1:13:25 PM 10/12/04 “I know, I know. Seems I don't have enough time to do everything. That one is a go though. Going to a dinner tomorrow night to meet the people I will be kayaking with. Seems to be a lot of us newbies going on this trip.” 1:24:23 PM 10/12/04 “ewk--that with the TSRA? I debated going on that one, it looks like a great trip!!” 3:44:54 PM 10/12/04 Jump to Page << prev
