“Got my 9 (soon to be 10) year old a Perception Acadia Scout. Designed for 60-120 lb. its a kids boat that is about 10 feet, tracks well, $320 less a 125 discount.


Also got a Wilderness Systems T145 with rudder to replace the big tandem (Pamlico Excel) that I had been paddling.


So the little guy (age 6) and I will paddle the tandem.

Now I have to sell the Pamlico Excel.

“Picked up a new kayak today. That makes 5 at my place now - there are only 4 people here. I'm out of control!

The new one is an old-style WS Tarpon 160 with the two big hatches for camping gear, as opposed to the new style with a tankwell for fishing gear. This one was at a fire sale price. Me and the boy had to try it in a 30 mph wind on the way home but we still loved it. It will be nicer tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can get the boy out there with me again. Maybe the wife if I ask nice.

Chemical spill kills thousands of fish

SALEM, Va. Officials in Salem say a fish kill now totals in the thousands -- two days after a biotechnology company accidentally spilled an industrial cleaner into a creek.
Fire Chief Pat Counts warned people to stay away from Mason Creek until further notice.

Counts says that Novozymes Biologicals accidentally released as much as 14-hundred gallons of floor and drain cleaner into the creek, which flows into the Roanoke River.

Company and Salem officials say the chemical could cause minor skin and eye irritation. There have been no reported injuries related to the spill.

The state Department of Environmental Quality, the state Health Department and the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service are investigating the spill, which happened Wednesday afternoon.

We have a firend who has a kids boat for Abby to learn on. It's a little four foot long sit-on-top that's almost impossible to tip over. Next year she'll have to start getting towed or paddling her own boat; she's getting too tall to be in the back hatch anymore.”
