The jerk in me came out too strong.” 3:38:32 PM 6/09/03 3:41:26 PM 6/09/03 I can see the headline now “Woman launches kayak in Susquehanna; ends up in Atlantic when sail takes off in high wind.” 3:43:01 PM 6/09/03 “lmao maple, wow! arty, we did like 7 miles yesterday but i had to give 5 boys and buffalobabe a turn in it too so i prolly only did like 4. i played around in some rapids. it's extremly manuverable and i figured out how to controll it. i can get goin pretty fast in it too, lol. i need to get some of those little rubber grommet things for my paddle that keep water from running down your arm and into your lap. it's gonna be a fight every time we do a family float over who gets to use it. guess i'll have to get 4 more.......cabellas has a cool old town that would be good for my boys for $300....... then i'll need a trailor to haul all of them.... man, what have i done?” 4:15:26 PM 6/09/03 “LOL @ strat! Sounds like your all addicted to kaycrack. Yeah, it's amazing how fast they are! It's also cool to be able to float over less than a foot of water without bottoming out. It's the most addicting thing I've done since backpacking. :-)” 4:19:20 PM 6/09/03 “i'm ready for some killer white water! the cool thing is i can just throw it on the truck and bolt. too bad i don't have a canal in my back yard, lol.” 4:22:31 PM 6/09/03 “Sails are mostly used for open ocean kayaking or over long distances....” 5:31:51 PM 6/09/03 “Maybe someday I'll try the sail, but I really enjoy the upper body workout I get from paddling.” 6:04:58 PM 6/09/03 “Normally, getting blown offshore would be a good thing, but after reading about a few of these guys, I'm thinking an EPIRB might be a good idea for open water. Not cheap, though... ! Cospas-Sarsat” 6:07:33 PM 6/09/03 6:14:41 PM 6/09/03 “I want one of those also Artex. I live about 200 yars from the lake and definately make it easier.” 6:30:18 PM 6/09/03 Hey Binks 6:56:53 PM 6/09/03 “that's cool arty. hey, what was it i heard on the radio that 5 people drowned and they had to rescue 80 people? was it like bad currents er sumpthin? i think it was on the gulf side by the panhandle.” 9:35:00 PM 6/09/03 “I've seen those sails for $99. They weren't as pretty as Maple's though. Hey ML, did you end up chosing either of those inflatables you posted? We did 20 miles in one day. It was on a river though, but the current was good and there was quite a bit of paddling around curves and trees and stuff. It was a good day. =)” 11:15:38 PM 6/09/03 “Strat, yeah that was up on the panhandle. I think they were swimmers though, not yakkers. I think riptides and currents were to blame if I remember correctly. 20 miles is quite long Sass! One of my goals is to paddle the entire length of Tampa Bay and back, it should be around 20 miles also. It can be tough depending on the conditions. I hope to do it by the end of summer.” 7:51:24 AM 6/10/03 “sass, i think im going to go with the stern. hope to get it this weekend!!” 8:10:32 AM 6/10/03 “Artex, it didn't seem like a long day a bit. BUT, twenty miles in open water would be a different story! Yay maple! New stuff s so much fun!” 8:13:04 AM 6/10/03 “It seems that most of our kayakers here are women. Is this a girly sport?” 8:17:26 AM 6/10/03 “naw, i think the women just talk about it more. there're actually more tt men w/kayaks” 8:36:24 AM 6/10/03 “hey sass, the next time you go yaking make sure you BELTCH real loud and pick your crotch oh and lets not forget to bring so much beer that it will weight down the kayak to the point that it will not go... J/k teasing you!! :)” 8:40:21 AM 6/10/03 “Gee, I would have expected men to talk about IT more~~%^]” 8:56:56 AM 6/10/03 “hey tom, lets get together and compare our uuummmm yaks....” 9:00:54 AM 6/10/03 “sass, I bet my yaker is bigger then your yaker..” 9:01:20 AM 6/10/03 “Whoa! I was just jivin' Back off lady!” 9:04:44 AM 6/10/03 “There's a good article -- really a trip report, with lots of good pictures, about touring and camping in sailing canoes (which are very similar in many ways to sea kayaks, but specifially designed for a small mast and sail, as well as paddleable) in the current issue of Sailing magazine (the annual small boat issue). The article will be of special interest to those in the Midwest/Great Lakes region, as the location of the trip is the North Channel in Lake Huron on the south shore of Ontario, just east of Sault Ste. Marie. The place is becoming a very popular cruising ground for sea kayakers and cruising sailboats. Lots and lots of islands, sheltered coves and anchorages, shoreline camping sites.” 5:29:37 PM 6/10/03 “i'd like to yak the boundry waters...” 10:10:09 PM 6/10/03 “14.5 FEET Maple. Almost too much for this girl to handle, lmao.” 11:46:54 PM 6/10/03 “well it seems that I have a new kayak :) so when is the first kayak trip and where?” 3:43:29 PM 6/12/03 “Just because we wear skirts don't mean we're sissies, dadburnit!!!” 4:41:38 PM 6/12/03 “Maple, what did you get? Binks - based on one use, the dolly works well. I wheeled my yak a few hundred yards down to the dock and launched from there. The dolly is so small it fits in my bulk hatch with no dissassembly required. My trip was cut short today because of an approaching thunderstorm, I just barely made it back in time. I also just missed seeing a couple of manatees, according to two guys on a dock. They're apparently quite common right in my own backyard. :-)” 4:48:56 PM 6/12/03 Four Days in a Row “Today marks the fourth day in a row I've been kayaking. I'm looking forward to letting my back muscles rest! Today was light, did 5 miles out into the bay and through some mangrove trails. Yesterday was not quite a buttkicker, but more strenuous.. about the same distance, maybe less, but out in the open ocean with a light chop. The days before that were at Weedon Island along a kayak trail through mangroves and the bay, and the day before from my place again, out into the bay. I took the GPS out in the bay for the first time. Pretty nifty little gadget.” 11:54:47 AM 6/15/03 “I am jealous!!!” 5:25:24 AM 6/16/03 “had them out for the ifrst time yesterday *(Father's dy) . . . .the rain had fnally broekn. Clear, dry sunny. SPent about 2.5 hours. Salmon Cove off the CT River, up the Salmon River.” 8:42:14 AM 6/16/03 “i got to do a 3 mile run on the west fork of the white river. the river was way up which really caught me by suprise cause it hadn't rained mush here. i finally realized that it had rained up in the mountains and that's why it was up. man, talk about a workout. i paddle down stream and ride my mtn bike(stuck in 7th gear) the 3 miles back up to my truck. it was great though. arty, did you get your wheel thingy yet?” 8:50:04 AM 6/16/03 “I love tracking things via UPS, unless then forget to update things ggggrrrrrr but keeping my toes and fingers crossed, my kayak should arrive Thursday!” 8:51:20 AM 6/16/03 “Artex, i am so jealous of you, you SOB! ;-) i went kayaking for the first time yesterday, and it was the breast thing ever. very peaceful, and great exercise. waaahhhhh, i want a kayak!!” 8:53:23 AM 6/16/03 “lyra, if you come camping next weekend i may let yo try mine..... but you gotta show up first!” 8:54:19 AM 6/16/03 “woo hoo! i think i'm going to have to wait a couple more days before i know if i can come. i hope you're taking care of your liver for me, though, just in case.” 8:55:49 AM 6/16/03 “what'd you get mape?” 9:02:49 AM 6/16/03 9:05:37 AM 6/16/03 “I really wished I had been able to try it out first, but it sucks living in the city! and I didnt want to wait till Sept, when the next demo day was happening. so i took a gamble, if anything it will be a helll of alot better then the one i have now.” 9:07:38 AM 6/16/03 “WHOA! COOL! does tree get to blow it up for you? i'd uhh......aviod banana chips while in that thing....” 9:08:38 AM 6/16/03 “LOL no blowin this puppy up. im going electric all the way!! POOF there its blown up! now get your asss in the water!” 9:10:10 AM 6/16/03 “does it really go poof? i'm assuming you got a pump? is that included in the price?” 9:16:37 AM 6/16/03 “it olnly comes with the foot kind. . I bought one that plugs into your lighter in the car.” 9:19:11 AM 6/16/03 “o i c. what about the poof?” 9:21:43 AM 6/16/03 “I dont know, its that thing you say when something gets done fast. ~POOF~ there its all done,” 9:29:50 AM 6/16/03 “Strat, yup, I've had the wheel thingy (LOL!) for more than a week, and have used it several times. It works great! Lyra, ah ha, you've got the itch! What kind of yak did you paddle in and where did you go?” 12:11:48 PM 6/16/03 “ok that was very scary. i just went into a website to find a little info on kayaking/camping and The Dueling Banjos were palying. I may not be kayaking with that group anytime soom.” 2:24:48 PM 6/23/03 Jump to Page << prev
