arty, we did like 7 miles yesterday but i had to give 5 boys and buffalobabe a turn in it too so i prolly only did like 4. i played around in some rapids. it's extremly manuverable and i figured out how to controll it. i can get goin pretty fast in it too, lol. i need to get some of those little rubber grommet things for my paddle that keep water from running down your arm and into your lap.

it's gonna be a fight every time we do a family float over who gets to use it. guess i'll have to get 4 more.......cabellas has a cool old town that would be good for my boys for $300.......


then i'll need a trailor to haul all of them....

“LOL @ strat! Sounds like your all addicted to kaycrack. Yeah, it's amazing how fast they are! It's also cool to be able to float over less than a foot of water without bottoming out. It's the most addicting thing I've done since backpacking. :-)”

We did 20 miles in one day. It was on a river though, but the current was good and there was quite a bit of paddling around curves and trees and stuff. It was a good day. =)”

“Strat, yeah that was up on the panhandle. I think they were swimmers though, not yakkers. I think riptides and currents were to blame if I remember correctly.

20 miles is quite long Sass! One of my goals is to paddle the entire length of Tampa Bay and back, it should be around 20 miles also. It can be tough depending on the conditions. I hope to do it by the end of summer.”

“There's a good article -- really a trip report, with lots of good pictures, about touring and camping in sailing canoes (which are very similar in many ways to sea kayaks, but specifially designed for a small mast and sail, as well as paddleable) in the current issue of Sailing magazine (the annual small boat issue).

The article will be of special interest to those in the Midwest/Great Lakes region, as the location of the trip is the North Channel in Lake Huron on the south shore of Ontario, just east of Sault Ste. Marie.

The place is becoming a very popular cruising ground for sea kayakers and cruising sailboats. Lots and lots of islands, sheltered coves and anchorages, shoreline camping sites.”

Binks - based on one use, the dolly works well. I wheeled my yak a few hundred yards down to the dock and launched from there. The dolly is so small it fits in my bulk hatch with no dissassembly required. My trip was cut short today because of an approaching thunderstorm, I just barely made it back in time. I also just missed seeing a couple of manatees, according to two guys on a dock. They're apparently quite common right in my own backyard. :-)”

“Today marks the fourth day in a row I've been kayaking. I'm looking forward to letting my back muscles rest! Today was light, did 5 miles out into the bay and through some mangrove trails. Yesterday was not quite a buttkicker, but more strenuous.. about the same distance, maybe less, but out in the open ocean with a light chop. The days before that were at Weedon Island along a kayak trail through mangroves and the bay, and the day before from my place again, out into the bay.

I took the GPS out in the bay for the first time. Pretty nifty little gadget.”

“had them out for the ifrst time yesterday *(Father's dy) . . . .the rain had fnally broekn. Clear, dry sunny. SPent about 2.5 hours. Salmon Cove off the CT River, up the Salmon River.”

“i got to do a 3 mile run on the west fork of the white river. the river was way up which really caught me by suprise cause it hadn't rained mush here. i finally realized that it had rained up in the mountains and that's why it was up. man, talk about a workout. i paddle down stream and ride my mtn bike(stuck in 7th gear) the 3 miles back up to my truck. it was great though.

Lyra, ah ha, you've got the itch! What kind of yak did you paddle in and where did you go?”

“ok that was very scary. i just went into a website to find a little info on kayaking/camping and The Dueling Banjos were palying. I may not be kayaking with that group anytime soom.”
