It straps onto the back of your kayak and you pull it along with the front hand hold. Want me to email you plans?” 7:42:35 AM 7/02/07 “There are areas in which I cannot use a wheeled device so a yoke is going to be mandatory. Having said that, heck yes! Let me see those plans!” 8:12:23 AM 7/02/07 “Noncom - check your kayak manufacturer's website for a yoke...I know there's one there. :)” 8:50:56 AM 7/02/07 “CP you're a genius! I checked our store assortment and found one left on clearance in lower Michigan. When all is said and done it should cost me about 5 bucks!” 9:22:04 AM 7/02/07 “sweet! I'll see if I can't find them and email them to you NC.” 11:56:23 AM 7/02/07 Noncom “GET ME ONE, TOO!!! :)” 12:00:29 PM 7/02/07 “YEEEHAAA>...got a trip going this weekend. Guiding some people on a yak trip should be a hoot.” 12:21:00 PM 7/02/07 “XL, where ya going?” 5:05:44 PM 7/02/07 “Yeah...XL???? Where ya going? You never set up my outing! :-(” 11:41:40 AM 7/03/07 AAR Broad River “We (all inexperienced kayakists) departed US221 just outside of Chesnee, SC for a two nighter down the Broad River to the Lockhart, SC area. Our goal was to go 39 miles and portage around 4 damns while enjoying two day and a half days on a river. The temps ranged from 75 to 93 and the river gauge showed about 2.3 feet. Average is in the 3+ range, but we are in drought conditions. The upper part was nice and had enough flow and water to be peaceful. We portaged around the dam at Cliffside and proceeded south about a mile to find a campsite. Most of the area we traveresed was rural and not much development. We passed up a great site just s of the Cliffside dam and ended up camping on a cleared construction lot for a vacation house. Saturday we started running into rocks as there just wasnt enough water to make it an easy fun trip. We did manage to catch decent small-mouth bass as we bumped and climbed over rocks. The area before and after NC150 bridge was terrible. Saturday afternoon we encountered 2 miles of slack water behind the Gravo (Gaston Shoals Dam). Our little flotilla split into two groups by about 1000' feet due to paddling strengths when a horrific thunderstorm basically blew in from nowhere. The first two boats made it to the portage area while the second two stopped along the bank and took cover. We reunited ninety minutes later, wet, chilled and sore. The race below the Gravo dam is horrible. Huge boulders, no water and no perceptible route down river. It was growing late; we had covered about 22 miles by 5pm and we were fast approaching the SC-18 bridge. The group voted to pull out and call for a ride. No we didn't make the entire run; we were literally exhausted from climbing in and out of the boats, dragging them over shoal after shoal, and fighting no water. For a bunch of novices we did a great feat and proud of our little trip. If you ever think you will do this section, you need at least 3' of water to run it straight through.” 2:55:05 PM 7/09/07 “el coolo” 3:04:38 PM 7/09/07 Congrats!... “you do realize that it's these experiences that take you from novice to experienced don't you....? Another hurdle taken...well done!” 3:19:28 PM 7/09/07 “Way to go! What a trip!!!” 12:26:30 PM 7/10/07 NC/SC Trip Info “Anyone got any suggestions for some trips in the NC/SC area where it might get to Class II and has water in it? Day trip or overnighter would be fine. I think I am addicted to my little orange plastic friend.” 6:57:30 PM 7/10/07 “Great TR. You'll be talking about that one for a while.” 10:05:56 PM 7/10/07 “Hi Yerby! Nice to have another North Carolinian on TT! (we don't always count Hwy...he is so far down on the coast!) LOL I know don't know much about the rivers but there are lots of folks that seem to like Lake Jocassee. I've not been on the lake yet but I know it is a beautiful lake. Santeelah (which i never can spell) is near Robinsville and I know Ewker has been there...he could maybe give you some tips. Have fun! CG” 8:01:35 AM 7/11/07 “I will hit up Ewker for the low down on those.” 8:06:41 PM 7/11/07 Yerby “check your myspace mail” 12:33:40 PM 7/12/07 Crazygurl “Nothing there. I am not the speediest Myspace email reader. do they have an expiration time on them?” 7:11:32 PM 7/13/07 “Hey Yerby...I sent another request to be added as your friend. It will be from Ragamuffin” 7:29:25 PM 7/13/07 “i wanna be ur friend...wah,wah” 7:55:27 PM 7/13/07 “Ewker...you have to join myspace!!!” 3:40:29 PM 7/14/07 “why and be a sheeple” 7:27:43 PM 7/14/07 “Looks like I figured out how to spend my lump sum COLA (like it was sooooo much, LOL)...Ana saw a pink kayak and since it's time to ditch the PITA tandem, I think she'll be getting it... It's an Old Town Loon, perfect for the yakking we do... http://www.oldtowncanoe.com/kayaks/recreation/loon_100.html” 10:16:58 AM 7/17/07 “What a girl! ;-)” 10:18:55 AM 7/17/07 “Nice! She'll love it.” 10:23:41 AM 7/17/07 “No kidding?! Pink?! Where??? (Abby's got her little kayaking heart set on pink and I've been telling her all along there's no way...never find one, etc, etc)” 10:25:23 AM 7/17/07 “OMG...I want a pink kayak!!!” 10:43:10 AM 7/17/07 here... “ 11:12:27 AM 7/17/07 “She absolutely is a girl, Stovie - she can go from a pig scramble to a beauty in a white dress all in the same day! :) The place I’m buying it from is just down the road from here – the guy said Old Town made the pink ones just for them, but I think he’s full of it as usual. He’s not my favorite person to do business with. However, the yak price on the web is $599, and he’s selling these for $399, so I’ll live through it. I wonder if you contacted Old Town, Sass…” 11:22:20 AM 7/17/07 “Dicks and Gander Mountain here in town carry them...” 11:26:30 AM 7/17/07 “OMG...I would LOVE that one!!!!” 11:32:27 AM 7/17/07 “the Venus 10, 11 and the Scupper Pro all come in pink.” 11:41:30 AM 7/17/07 Pink Kayak “I bought an old town Otter that is a pink swirl color about two months ago from Dick's Sporting Goods. A whole lot of spontaneous explaining on the long walk to cashier why I was buying a pink kayak.” 6:50:46 PM 7/17/07 “ooh I'll have to check Dick's - I'd like to avoid the #&%!$ at the other place if I can.” 5:19:51 AM 7/18/07 “How long till that quote shows up in the Out of context quotes thread? ;-) last edited: 7/18/07 5:25:52 AM” 5:24:06 AM 7/18/07 “Didn't take long to get back to your old self, Stovie, LOL... (yay!) I didn't see a Loon on the Dick's website, but I'll call the store later.” 5:27:12 AM 7/18/07 “Verby...could you please explain to US why you bought a pink kayak??? :-) Twig..I hate Dick's also....hubby goes for the fishing stuff but they seem way over priced for me.” 5:41:50 AM 7/18/07 “Dang, forgot to put in the above post that it was for my girlfriend. Mine is orange/red and the less expensive yet larger cockpit opening 9.5 swifty by perception” 6:24:35 PM 7/18/07 “I checked out Dick's last night... They do carry Loons, but they were $100 more. They had pink Otters, but I don't want an Otter.” 5:35:47 AM 7/19/07 “The Otter doesn't look as nice as the Loon. The Loon seems to have better features and better material.” 5:49:32 AM 7/19/07 “Austin has a Manatee, which is the same as an Otter. It's more bathtubby, and he'll need a new one when he gets a little older. The Loon will fit Ana for years.” 5:55:55 AM 7/19/07 “I didn't see the Manatee in the listing, but the Otter looked quite a bit wider and shorter than the Loon. Then when I read the specs it was only an inch wider and 6 inches shorter. I guess you have to see them for real to tell.” 6:05:31 AM 7/19/07 “The Manatee isn't sold by Old Town and the link I gave is to Old Town. It may be made by Old Town (or not) but it's sold under the LLBean name. I just checked out the LLB website, and there is a Rose colored kayak...” 6:19:29 AM 7/19/07 “I figured it was either made by someone else or maybe old enough that it was replaced by a different model. last edited: 7/19/07 6:25:05 AM” 6:24:08 AM 7/19/07 “I picked it up today at lunch, the butthead guy wasn't there - yay! I bought a paddle as well, I noticed the price tag said $79, they sell them for $49 with the yak - LLB sells the same paddle for $39.50... Ana will be thrilled...” 10:46:12 AM 7/19/07 “That's great! I'm sure she'll love it.” 10:47:36 AM 7/19/07 “Mine is orange/red and the less expensive yet larger cockpit opening 9.5 swifty by perception” yerby 8:24:35 PM 7/18/07 I have a yellow Swifty named Buttercup...I love it!!!!” 10:48:26 AM 7/19/07 “Swifty, Manatee, Otter - all basically the same yak. At the risk of having Stovie quote me on the out of context quotes thread, six inches is a big difference. :)” 10:53:36 AM 7/19/07 “lol...hahahahahahahaaaa.... I also have a Old Town Rush named Waterlily....but I don't like it as well as my Swifty......” 10:55:41 AM 7/19/07 Jump to Page << prev
