In the 90s, I used to go around (similar to Ted Kazinsky, without the bombs), and warn people of the upcoming tech boom and how it will destroy our humanity. It's gone exactly as I used to warn. I was so far into the tech that I saw things before they were happening. I am not joking/trolling/phishing/whatever when I say humanity as we know it will be lost in less than 100 years. So far my predictions have been spot on. During all this, Gore made his claim. I followed it at the time, and I, like many in the tech world, were flabbergasted.” 6:04:12 PM 2/18/08 “What about the JFK safe break in. That's even older and sillier news to fight about. The truth ; Gore invented the InyourNET. last edited: 2/18/08 5:32:35 PM” salebored 5:27:44 PM 2/18/08 I invented the InyourFACE!!!” 6:04:17 PM 2/18/08 “By the way yotaman, I don't need your personal commentary and insults. I have not attacked you, why don't you offer me the same courtesy.” 6:05:02 PM 2/18/08 “funniest sht EVAH” 6:41:10 PM 2/18/08 “on that note - In case anyone is interested, here are my predictions ... In the early 90s I was predicting that large companies would begin giving out their "internet" address as readily as their own name in the following 10 years. (Remember, this was at a time most people didn't even know what that meant, or what I was even talking about) I predicted by the early 2000s there would be a handheld computer, phone, web-browser, video camera, all in one. At the time, people were thinking I was dreaming and watching too much StarTrek. Here is where it gets bad ... (remember, this is even before Google) I was also telling people that these portable computers would be so quick to give you needed information, people in companies and privately would begin to rely on them for their communication and information. In the next 20-30 years (from mid 90s) they would be so commonplace as a source of information, it will be at a major disadvantage at the workplace/school to not have this tech. Because of this, and because the tech will advance so quickly as to make remembering almost unnecessary, people will rely on the devices as a 2nd and more reliable brain. The tech will also shrink, and the computers will become invisible in the sense that they will be an internal part of your body. They will not only act as memory and information banks, but will assist you in the thought process. There will be people who will originally resist the implanted tech, but will eventually have to give in in order to communicate, but to function in society - especially to excel in the workplace. I was also telling people that the precursors to this tech will be purchased at computer stores like Best Buy and Circuit City in the next 10-20 years (this was 10 years ago). The pda/smartphone/blackberry's are the first incarnations of this. Next will be wearable, then implantable computers. (actually, some of this is already being done in people with physical problems - the chips are being integrated with their brains and working to assist in memory function) What you see here on trailtalk, and Myspace, etc. is just the beginning of the end. These "social" avenues will become the norm rather than the exceptioin, and will be easily accessed by all 24/7. There will be no "computer" to turn off. Soon, (30-60 years from now), people will be purchasing "upgrades" for their brain. Communication as we know it will be almost non-existent. Our humanity will be destroyed as the virtual world becomes our reality. The "real world" will feel as disconnected to us in 70-100 years as the internet was to us 5 years ago. We are past the point of no return. I have long since given up taking an alarmist approach to this. To steal from StarTrek, "resistance is futile". The Borg is the closest semblence to near-future man as you will see in science fiction. The difference will be we we'll still look the same on the outside, although we'll be nearly indestructible (at least in the sense we will be able to replace broken parts. This is just a small look into what I was saying. The logic and history behind those predictions is another story, but has to do with being "plugged-in" early on as the growth was happening at an alarming rate. The internet growth has slowed, but advancements in bio-tech and nano-tech is advancing very rapidly. The two worlds are colliding, and there is no turning back. Once they collide, the internet will see a new growth period as the tech becomes more readily available to all. Enjoy humanity while it's still here. The older people on here won't see the end of humanity, but for you younger people who think you will resist, ... if you're reading this, you're already in trouble. last edited: 2/18/08 6:50:49 PM” 6:47:23 PM 2/18/08 what else do you see in that crytal ball, swami? “ ”6:54:22 PM 2/18/08 “I saw that coming.” 6:55:28 PM 2/18/08 “i knew you would say that. i predicted it” 6:56:25 PM 2/18/08 “Actually, that post is one of, if not the, most important thing you have or will ever hear relating to this planet on your life on it. It will go ignored, but in hindsight it (the message, not the post) will be looked upon one day as the most underestimated warning of the history of mankind. last edited: 2/18/08 6:58:36 PM” 6:58:03 PM 2/18/08 “Speaking of, ironically - I'll be giving a showing of BladeRunner in my theater next Friday crash. I'll be showing "The Final Cut". last edited: 2/18/08 7:00:22 PM” 6:59:24 PM 2/18/08 “i knew you were going to say that you predicted he would say whatever he said.” 7:04:56 PM 2/18/08 “If you dudes want to keep swimming I'll hang a note on the handle--DO NOT FLUSH I'm gona watch Hillary reruns.” 8:17:14 PM 2/18/08 “which begs the question, why were you eating hikers?” 8:18:44 PM 2/18/08 “Pikers?” 8:22:04 PM 2/18/08 “Wait...a thread about Internet Porn and not one PHOTO? It isn't that big a stretch to see those possibilities even as a casual observer.” 6:00:37 AM 2/19/08 “OH MY GOD...Crash...YOU S.O.B. where the hell did you find a photo of my Mother in- L-......wait...sorry too small. But thank you it reminds me why I am so damn glad I never have to see her again.” 6:01:19 AM 2/19/08 “hpm, I'm sure you saw similar things in SciFi novels, but I was specific and gave very accurate dates (to date). Believe me, the "casual observers" didn't believe me for the most part. Some still don't.” 7:11:56 AM 2/19/08 “So Sarge, this is kind of like a parody on Gore saying he invented the internet, right? I mean, saying you had predicted all this stuff back in the 90's when in reality this has been speculation for longer than that. I remember reading about the Singularity (though I don't remember it being called that until the mid-90's) back in the 80's.” 7:20:23 AM 2/19/08 “I've seen those same predictions (with dates) many times over.” 7:23:20 AM 2/19/08 “jebus cripes, you idiots. Just click on the silly YouTube link I posted a page ago and shutthefùckup!” 7:26:17 AM 2/19/08 “You want the World of Warcraft version too? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWEjvCRPrCo&feature=related” 7:29:20 AM 2/19/08 “hpm, where, specifically? Plus - This is just a small look into what I was saying. The logic and history behind those predictions is another story, but has to do with being "plugged-in" early on as the growth was happening at an alarming rate. last edited: 2/19/08 7:40:46 AM” 7:38:58 AM 2/19/08 “hpm - I also followed many predictions by futurists, and never saw predictions as accurate and to the date as what I predicted. In almost every case, the futurists underestimate the date at which certain technologies will come to be, and they also have a lot wrong with their predictions. Mine were accurate, meaning correct, not close, .... accurate.” 7:43:03 AM 2/19/08 “Give up the punchline already, Sarge.” 7:50:35 AM 2/19/08 “Sarge predicts history.” 7:52:10 AM 2/19/08 “Egads man. You want 20+ years of reading, listening and observing summarized with quotes and footnotes? Lets start with James Martin on the subject of business technology in "The Wired Society" he predicted cellular phones, ATMs (automated teller machines), the World Wide Web, the Internet, e-mail, e-commerce, instant messaging, telecommuting, and PDAs (personal digital assistants). In 1977. Shall I make a prediction? You will poo-poo anything I post. last edited: 2/19/08 7:57:00 AM” 7:55:42 AM 2/19/08 “Yeah, those predictions weren't as accurate date-wise as Sarge's predictions 20 years later!!! LOL” 7:58:34 AM 2/19/08 “hpm - nobody said those things weren't predicted before. What wasn't done is an accurate prediction of timeframes and implementation. Please show me where what I predicted was accurately predicted by anyone, both in implementation and timeframe. Of course there were futurists predicting future technologies. I think you're missing the point.” 8:09:25 AM 2/19/08 “Yes, but what percentage of the internet is PRON?” 8:10:28 AM 2/19/08 “Shall I make a prediction? You will poo-poo anything I post. humanpackmule You do realize that is exactly what you're doing to me, right? I guess it's cool if you do it.” 8:10:45 AM 2/19/08 “By the way hpm, much of what you're saying James Martin "predicted" in 1977 already existed! Great example you gave there.” 8:11:59 AM 2/19/08 “hpm - Let me put this simply for you. My predictions, thus far, have been spot on - exactly as they were envisioned by me. My predictions go beyond present day. Whether or not somebody else any similar thoughts as I have, is irrelevant. Martin did not make the predictions I did as far as I can tell from looking him up just now. If he did, please show me. Either way, I didn't gleen the predictions from him, they came from personal experience. My warnings are far more severe than what you've demonstrated from Martin, and again, to date, have been completely accurate. You act as if it was obvious at the time, but I can tell you that everyone I approached with this were in disbelief. I don't think you grasped the totality of my predictions above. Maybe you should re-read. Also, precitions of PDAs, etc. go decades before Martin's predictions. The point is to understand when they will come to fruition, AND, more importantly, how that technology will integrate and affect our lives. There is a bigger picture. The bigger picture is this - there is going to come a time in near history where the shrunken computers that integrate with our bodies will take over and assist most brain functions. This importance of that is it will become NECESSARY to do so in order to compete in the world. Truly, resistence will be futile. You won't be able to communicate with others, in the workplace and elsewhere, without "hooking in". Resistance will truly be futile. This will come SUDDENLY. Once the first implementation comes to fruition, it will happen globally so quickly we'll hardly notice it. Humanity as we know it will quickly be gone. last edited: 2/19/08 8:28:24 AM” 8:21:09 AM 2/19/08 i think what everyone is trying to say is “WHOOPTIE FVCKIN DOO!” 8:25:21 AM 2/19/08 “I got it crash. I understand that. I also don't care. Put me on ignore if you don't want to hear it.” 8:28:57 AM 2/19/08 “ ”8:32:18 AM 2/19/08 “What Mega Bucks numbers should I pick tonight? Anyone?” 8:32:43 AM 2/19/08 “I used to go around (similar to Ted Kazinsky, without the bombs), and warn people of the upcoming tech boom and how it will destroy our humanity you mean like taking a silly teh intewebs furom way 2 seereeussly? or using google or whatever to look up someones address when you couldve just asked that kind of destroying our humanity? last edited: 2/19/08 8:37:04 AM” 8:36:39 AM 2/19/08 “yeah, like that. laugh if you want... I mean, if google is quicker and easier, why not? Right?” 8:39:35 AM 2/19/08 “why not? why not? because its the courteous thing to do. so as to not be a little creepy” 8:41:53 AM 2/19/08 “Like I said, until now I've laid off the alarmism, but if telling people an accurate forseeing of the future is 'tooting one's horn', so be it. Somebody has to do it (that is ... "think"). Thinking serves little purpose until it's vocalized. It's up to you if you want to listen, or simply mock. last edited: 2/19/08 8:43:45 AM” 8:42:03 AM 2/19/08 “in all seriousness, i agree with you about the tech/humanity thing im just not bowled over by your striking profoundness” 8:44:01 AM 2/19/08 “why not? because its the courteous thing to do. so as to not be a little creepy My point. It is creepy. I've accepted my destiny. Have you accepted yours?” 8:45:18 AM 2/19/08 hells, yea! i'm creep, baby! “ ”8:47:47 AM 2/19/08 “What evidence do you have of your predictions, Sarge? Surely you didn't expect anyone to believe you considering your past history of dishonesty. The only original thing you seem to bring to the futurist debate is your accuracy of timing. And from your original post, predicting "in the early 90's" that businesses would be advertising their URLs was hardly a revelation, as it was happening at the time. LMAO. I'm still waiting for the punchline, because this is "I've repeatedly won debates with ivory league academics" stupid. Not as bad as MarkO-Dumb, but pretty close.” 9:22:05 AM 2/19/08 “I figured the internet would actually be a higher % of porn.” 9:37:30 AM 2/19/08 “My "history" of dishonest? The death-of-sarge joke? Okay ... Anyways ... the original thing I've brought is the way AND timing of which the dehumanization of man will happen. In the early 90s, you would not be able to show me ONE company that was advertising their URLs in any t.v. ad, magazine, billboard, etc.. re: evidence of my predictions, every one has come true so far as it was predicted. What else evidence would anyone need?” 9:56:32 AM 2/19/08 “Actually Sarge, the poo poo comment was meant in jest. Seeing as you are used to attacks I can see why you took it as such. I did not say that you lifted anything from anyone. All I am saying is that over the years I have been subject to many different predictions from various sources, some with time frames. As we all know most predictions are way off base. (Where is my jetpack dammit!) It is unrealistic to expect me to skive off at work and fully research 20+ years of data to satisfy you. Much of it I rely on memory. Martin's predictions were no so much about the technology as the impacts of the technology. BTW- Yes some of those mentioned did exist in '77 but not all of them. And yes, I'm well aware of the social/moral ramifications of technology. I've worked on implanted technology projects (digitalangel.com) from the web side. North America was not very accepting of it.” 10:07:36 AM 2/19/08
