Flooded mailboxView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 5 of 5 messages posted.
“After every trip to GSMNP my mailbox gets flooded for about two months with catalogs and ads for all types of outdoor stuff and magazines. It covers hiking, backpacking, kayaking, bicycling, etc. From now on I'm going to use a false name and address when I fill out reservation forms at GSMNP and other sites. I realize that emergency information may someday be needed, but I carry that. I'm curious to see if this will prevent the flood of unwanted mail. Have you had any similar experiences?” 6:40:45 PM 6/01/03 “We don't register online with them. We do it over the phone and haven't had any problems yet.” 7:34:51 PM 6/01/03 “iHateSpam is $18.99 with a $20 rebate. I think that lasts until June 16th. You just pay their normal shipping. I've been using it for about a month now and it saves me all sorts of time and grief. You can also purchase iHateSpam directly from Sunbelt Software. It works with Outlook and Outlook Express.” 7:56:01 PM 6/01/03 “I'm referring mainly to the trip plan forms that I drop in the boxes at the Ranger Stations and the resulting mail in my box at the U.S. Post Office. I did not use any of the reserved sites(in red on the park map) this last trip. However, I did use campgrounds in GSMNP and in other parks and had an overnight permit at Linville Gorge.” 8:22:15 PM 6/01/03 Spam, Junkmail and Death threats ;-) “Nowslimmer, I feel your pain. I use selective marketing service. Its free and helps remove your name from junkmail lists. Cuts down on the amount of telemarketers calling as well as the junkmail you get. As for computer spam, i think the only way to reduce it is to use one of those "mail washers" mentioned in a previous post on this thread. I am going to have to invest in one of those also. There is someone who posts from time to time....... who I remember a funny story about. He and I were sitting there in the truck at Cosby campground. He was registering to camp under a made up name. We'd just met so it freaked me right out. Every sort of thought was going through my mind "Whats up with this guy!?" He explained the junkmail and spam thing to me. I refused to buy it and told him if he didn't register with his real name and address etc. That it wasn't gonna be pretty. He went ahead and obliged me all the while threatening my life if his mailbox filled up with junk and he started getting telemarkerting calls. LMAO Sure he'll recognize the story if he reads it. Prolly want to make me pay for it all over again just on general principal. Twas funny!” 10:47:37 AM 6/02/03
