Hi. I am a crab collecter who is interested in hiking. I have stumbled up on your site here and have questions about hiking in the Nevada/Eastern Sierra area. What good trails are there? etc. etc.

I think most of the west coasters who do the most bping are out right now. Have you checked the trails section or the trips section of this site?

If you see SpongeBob ask him where Mr. Squidword is hiding all the crabby patties.

We like to kid around on this site, but don't mean to chase people away. Some of the regulars sign on with new made up names and then everyone calls them a troll. Just so you know the situation here.

Let me answer your most important question - dogs do not belong in the backcountry.

LNT = LDH.

so, what exactly is involved in crab collecting?

I can assure you a am not a "troll".

Lyra, to answer your question-

Crabs are reletivley easy pets. They have no diseases. All you must do is keep the terrarium warm and humid. The crabs need a lot of moister in the air in order to breath well and remain active. Misting them several times a day or installing a mister helps.

Must hike, IT is perfectly acceptable. Pet crabs are not meant to be eatten. However I find the meat of the sea food kind most succulent.

I must reply to the "troll" acusations.

I am not a troll. Am I right that the deffinition of a troll is someone who posts as a seperate personna then normal, perhaps used to stir up the masses into some kind of argument? Then I am not a troll. I am not here to stir up trouble but only here to get information on trails that may intrest me from those who have actually hiked them.

Crabs - Please tell me, if you know: What is the average life span of a hermit crab in captivity? One that I brought back from Puerto Rico died after several shell changes and three years as a pet.

Thanks.

Nowslimmer that is an excellent question. My oldest crab is 12 years old and its name is Buba. With good care and a healthy ballenced diet that includes fruit and vegtables, a pet crab, depending on the species, can last 20-25 years.

NS, you mean you smuggled the crab in. where did you get it from? the beach? at a pet store?
that might have a big factor in the lengh of the crabs life.
