Not sure XL. I haven't seen her punch her other band members. Maybe somebody else can weigh in.

Um for the libbies...the Freedom of Speech in America...is the right to say what you want...but there is nothing in there that says anyone has to listen, or pay for you to say it.

One of the Dixie Chicks said that their awards we a result of people expressing their "Freedom of Speech". I find that statement interesting on several levels, but the first thing that came to mind was that she realized that their music isn't all that good. It's their rhetoric that won the Grammy. Hmmmm.

I do find it interesting that Al Gore was one of the presenters, LOL.
Country Grammy for a group that claims they aren't Country anymore.

In looking at the list of winners it's a virtual who's who of mediocrity. I did notice Peter Frampton won his.

Damn it SS! We're talking the Dixie Hicks and the Grammers here. We don't want your facts. We want rhetoric that supports our own views. Don't even try and clutter it with music either.

First off, my nickname for the band is "The Flasher Victims" (sorry for the bad pun).

I saw a head line that must have sent anyone who gripes about "The MSM" into a tizzy. It read something like "Dixie Chicks sweep Grammy's despite flap over Bush remarks." Not sure if I remember it all correcly, but it was the word "despite" that gave me a laugh. NoProb is basically right. I've always enjoyed the Dixie Chicks, but there is no way they would have swept without the political flap - and no way they deserved a music awards sweep. The Chix ain't stupid, I'm sure they knew it.

The Grammys have always had a weird sense of what was good and popular in most any kind of music (not sure if they care about either). How many did Celine Dione win?

BTW: Al Gore was a long time friend of Johnny Cash and June. I think he was once congressman from their district.

No, Y2, at least in my case it's a freedom of speech thing. They have a right to say any stupid thing they want. I have a right to not pay my good money to listen to them say it. Or to pay my good money to purchase their CD, since they might interrrepret that to mean I agree with what they say.

I think saying that the world has embraced them is a bit off due to the fact that they were only #9 on album sales and didn't even crack the top ten on top selling artists.

Relatively they got their asses handed to them by an American Idol winner. LOL!

Mr. Cash on politics and pickin'

The One On The Right Is On The Left

There once was a musical troupe
A pickin' singin' folk group
They sang the mountain ballads
And the folk songs of our land

They were long on musical ability
Folks thought they would go far
But political incompatibility led to their downfall

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear was a Methodist

This musical aggregation toured the entire nation
Singing the traditional ballads
And the folk songs of our land
They performed with great virtuosity
And soon they were the rage
But political animosity prevailed upon the stage

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear burned his driver's license

Well the curtain had ascended
A hush fell on the crowd
As thousands there were gathered to hear The folk songs of our land
But they took their politics seriously
And that night at the concert hall
As the audience watched deliriously
They had a free-for-all

Well, the one on the right was on the bottom
And the one in the middle was on the top
And the one on the left got a broken arm
And the guy in the rear, said, "Oh dear"

Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group
Don't go mixin' politics with the folk songs of our land
Just work on harmony and diction
Play your banjo well
And if you have political convictions keep them to yourself

Now, the one on the left works in a bank
And the one in the middle drives a truck
The one on the right's an all-night deejay
And the guy in the rear got drafted

No Mutt - I wouldn't like Toby Keith taken off the airwaves for pretty well the same reason.

I mean they were a big name in country before this happened, it wasn't for musical reasons that these stations ditched them.

So private businesses shouldn't have the choice as to what they sell then? No matter how unpopular the product may be with the target audience they should still sell it?
Nigal

I think making them less popular with their target audience and reducing their air time accordingly is one thing.
Making a conscious decision to take them off the air becasue of their political views is another thing altogether.

Me either. Hell, if anything I still love their first two CDs. It's only after they found that they got all the spotlight by saying stupid things did I not care for them. Attention whores usually get the exact opposite with me.
