I'm Going To Have To Change His Name To "Lumpy"
I noticed a few lumps on Buddur a few months ago and took him to the Vets to have him checked out. Even though the Vet said they feel like fatty tissue he still recommended to have them yanked and a biopsy done. For that he'd have to be put under prior to incisions, etc.

Well, I keep finding more lumps on him. Like tonight, I found 2 more. It's not the lumps under his skin that I can feel that concern me...its the potential ones that may be in his body cavity that'll get in the way and possible do harm.

If I were to have them yanked, as of now there'll be at least 6 incisions. And on down the line I'm sure there'll be more...and so on and so on.

None seem to irritate him or impede his normal activities, but unfortunately, from what I've read on the Net and of the pics I've seen, they'll most likely grow and may just keep getting bigger.

This sucks!

My kids had a pet rat. It developed tummors and was looking a little sluggish. One night when the kids were at a friends I took a piece of string and strangled the rat.

When they found the dead rat the next day we buried it.

Is your dog a golden? Mine has fatty tumors. A vet friend says little can be done. The tumors entwine with muscle fiber. Mine is 10 years old.

Take it easy 2scoops, you may be a rat, but I probably wouldn't strangle you.

BuddurMan - My dog has had some fatty lumps removed. Same deal; the vet said there was prolly nothing to worry about but wanted to remove and biopsy. They were nothing. She had three removed. The recover was a piece of cake. My vet did say that if I didn't remove them, they'd prolly just keep getting bigger. Yuc.

That's a tough call. My Dad had a dog that developed those and he didn't have them biopsied. They turned out to be cancer and killed him. Personally, I'd have them checked.

Bacpac did the humane thing. All rats develop cancer if they live long enough (meaning those tumors were probably cancerous) and it's a horrible way to die for any creature.

Our dog is nearing 13 years. Has a number of fatty lumps. Our vet, who I greatly respect, says it is quite common as dog's age. Usually not something to worry about unless they start getting bigger quickly. One lump we were concerned about but a biopsy indicated it was just another fatty deposit.

Is this something that is found in goldens Budder? I'm going tomorrow to look at a few females. Can't wait to get my own little pooch!

Nigal
It's not breed specific. Many dogs develop the lumps.

Hope Buddur stays ok. Vet told me the same. Tumors are more common in older dogs. They are also have a higher probability of being cancerous, the older the dog is.

How old is Buddur?

I had a dog a few years ago that was like that w/lumps and the vet said it was attributed to eating too much human food...fat content too high, did the vet mention that?

My first dog had those lumps too, she lived with them for ten years. Finally we put her down at 17.(she was blind , deaf and too crippled to even stand.)

My smaller dog has lumps currently. they are called lipomas (sp). I also agree with what clem35 said. Our vet said that it had to do with fats solidifying. They are not really a problem when they are just under the dermal tissue layer of the skin however they can be harmful and need to be removed if they grow within the muscle tissue of the legs.

Lipomas, eh? You should have seen the size of the lipoma the docs removed from my mother in law's back. It was about 4" across. Major ick.
