leaving vehicle

“A buddy of mine and myself are hiking the AT through the Smokies beginning at Fontana Dam. Any suggestions on where to leave vehicle where we end?”

Mountain Mama's - The last I recall it was $2.00 per day.
Deep Creek Ranger Station parking lot.
Deep Creek Picnic Area parking lot.

If you leave a vehicle on route 32 by the trail, please let me know the day and time that you will park it. I would like to beat the others to it.

There is only parking on the east side of Route 32 by the trail. There is small parking area there. A few years ago the park placed large boulders and no parking signs on the park side of the road. That way the park does not have to handle the break-ins with all the paper work, etc. The county has to take care of it all.”

“Have vandals been active at Davenport Gap again? A bunch of years ago they were active.
I know the Park Service says to park at Big Creek Ranger Station two miles down from the Gap.”

“I have not heard of any activity there recently. But there is a new set of young ones finishing school every year some of whom will be looking for opportunities. Park there if you like.”

“If it were me I'd park at Big Creek Ranger station or Big Creek picnic area.

I would not park on Route 32.”
