New harry Potter book coming out!

“My wife's been reading the series to our kids. Unfortunately, the books get darker as Harry gets older, so she decided to not let my son hear some parts of the last one. The first two were very good though.

It appears as if Rowling is falling prey to "Clancy's Disease", that is, the tendency for your later books to get longer, and longer, and longer, and longer...”

“This one's supposed to be 700 pages, I think. About a month ago, didn't someone find two of the manuscripts in a field in Britain and turn them over to one of the trash tabloids there. I think they said they were going to keep it under wraps...”

“Bit the longer books are by design. The story is supposed to mature with child and their abilities.

Longer attention span = more pages
bigger vocabulary = bigger and more complex words.
more maturity = more complex concepts”

“I think that new book is more like 900 pages long. And yes they get darker, but also more complex as Harry gets older. We didn't let our daughters see the last movie in the theater because we thought it would be too scary for them. The fourth book was too scary for my kids, lots of killing of people. But I am sure the oldest will be chomping at the bit to read the fifth one. I will read it first and decide if she has to wait.

And yes, the imagination of J.K. Rowling is astounding. These books are a treasure.”

“We went to the bookstore party last night and a toystore party today. I was dressed as Hagrid for both parties. the book store manager gave me a free book and I didn't have to wait it line with the other 800 muggles. For dressing up at the toystore party my children were allowed to attend for free. (which was $10 per child and only available to radio station winners and a handful of kids who preordered the books).

I also dressed up our son as a mandrake. He wore green jammies and I attached a plastic plant to a hooded jacket (which he wore under his jammies) and pulled the hood over the top of his head. He was the hit of both parties.”

“(2003-06-21) -- A 14-year-old Philadelphia boy was treated and released from a hospital this morning after being shot in the chest by a friend who wanted his new copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, according to a news release from Bloomsbury, the publisher of the book.

Physicians say the boy would be dead but the bullet struck the 870-page book first, leaving the child with only minor injuries.

“I finished the book a couple hours ago. I'd start reading again, but I've got a reading induced migraine and I promised HPM he'd read it next.”

“ive not read any of the potter books (i have seen the first movie), so i cant say theyre good or bad, but i am glad that children (and adults) are getting excited about reading again. that in itself is exciting.”

“i think when i finish the book of science fiction short stories im on, ill pick up the first harry potter book. i resisted him for a long time because i thought he was a wimpy tim hunter, but now im intrigued by all the good things ive heard from ppl whose opinion on reading i respect”
