Telemarketers calling. Me being awake after not getting home from the airport until 4:30 ought to be too, come to think of it.

I'll go back and read it again in a few days. And again, and again, and again...

I had a Lit teacher in college who said one read will give you just a whiff of the book; 3 reads a small taste, and ten and decent bite. He was also a little obsessed with Shakespeare, but that's a nother story.

Don't tell ANYTHING!!! I'm so afraid with the craze people will start blabbing and give too much info before I get it read. I'll have to cover my ears when I hear the words Harry Potter. I better read it quickly, too. :)

I'm not going to read all the posts on this thread until I've read the book..hit Wally world yesterday at 4:30...it's my favoite time to shop..and, with the heat index in the 100's. I can't think of a better way to spend the day than swingin' in the hammock, sipping a cold beverage and reading HP...

Don't read the chapter titles if you want it to be a complete surprise. The names give the ending away.

It's true! The last book is going to be available July 21st! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows...

and, the 5th movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is due out July 13th...you are all going to be really sick of Harry Potter by then!

NOT ME! I checked my calendar and the 21st is a Saturday. The kids will be sick of PB&J by the end of the weekend! LOL It's terrible. I have to buy TWO brand spankin new, hard cover books because neither my 12 year old nor myself will wait for the other to finish the book.

Yes, I'm preordering the last book. Yes, I'll see the movies. But I really have to admit things got a lot more interesting when Daniel Radcliffe (the actor playing Harry) recently posed nude for the play he's currently starring in.

Here's one link.

I'm just started rereading the 6th book today. I'll be finished up rereading all of them a little earlier than I planned, but at least this will allow a good bit of anticipation to build up before I sink into #7

As I am always on the cutting edge of pop culture and trendy things, treebait will be happy to know I am starting to read the first book of the Harry Potter saga. ;-)

Okay there is something slightly disturbing about that last post....

Mata, I have a friend who's son has Aspergers (form of Autisim)...he hooked up on READING from Harry Potter. I think that is cool.

A whole generation of kids has been hooked up on reading by Harry Potter. Since HP came out there has been a renaissance in children's literature. HP made it cool for kids to read. Having read a HP book was a status symbol and not a sign that you were a geek. And all of us that love reading know, that once you get the bug, you have to read again. So there was now a market for other novelist to step in with sophisticated children's books. In an era when book sells are declining the children's market is thriving.

When I was a kid we had the Hardy boys and then the classics like Treasure Island (which was a bit dated). I am amazed by whats available for my children to read these days. I have enjoyed reading many of the "children's novels" they bring home.

Yeah JP Rowling and Harry Potter.

I suspect she will have a lot of books with her name on it as "co-author". Which means there will be a lot of books written by others that take place in the HP universe that she might review after the check clears. She is richer than the Queen of England, but her whole life revolves around writing the next book. I think she is probably tired of the whole thing.

I caught the new movie. My initial thought was that I didn't like it very much, but then I realized it kept me fully engaged the entire time. I forgot about everyone else there. I didn't like how they chopped the book all up but I understand that they need to keep it short. C'mon ya wankers, let it go over 2 hours for once! Just have a warning before the movie starts to go use the potty NOW!

I didn't like it. I was actually bored on occasion. Everything that makes HP books and movies wonderful was left out. The dialogue felt stilted and there was very little witty returns between Harry, Ron and Hermione. Hagrid had a very minor roll and they barely brought in any depth to the new characters. In fact, the only good in the movie was the information I brought with me as a fan of the books and inserted into the film where it was needed.

I was actually thinking, walking into the theater, that I'd rather have seen the Transformers movie again.
