120 degrees plus!!
It was hot, it was hotter than Africa hot, even Tarzan wouldn't have been able to take it!! ( Neil Simon Biloxi Blues).........Last week while backpacking in Canyonlands NP during the peak hrs of the afternoon ( dum I know but not my fault , I was ready to go MUCH EARLIER!!! blame it on my hommies ) It got so hot that we sought shelter under a shelf . We decided we were going to stay there til it cooled a little ( 5 hours). During this time I put my thermometer outside into the sun. To my disbelief it was 120 degrees +, the mercury couldn't go any higher!!! I said no way there has to be something wrong with my thermometor, so I checked with the rangers on the way out and they said yup it get's real hot in those canyons, the rocks absorb and then throw off the heat. Great trip but never again during late May.

Be careful out there in that kind of heat...people's been known to drop dead of heat stroke.
