Head Cold

“I started sneezing, blowing nose, and runny eyes Monday afternoon.
Summer head cold.
Tuesday wasn't any better, today is more of the same.
How long do these things hang around?
I leave for the smokies tomorrow for a four day/three night backpack on the AT.
Thinking I may need to cancel, but I sure don't want to. I'll see how I feel this afternoon.
Usually I'm over the worst of it in three days, but I feel really weak. Any advice?”

“I'd cancel. Who knows, it could be monkey pox, SARS or West Nile Virus.”

“Drink plenty of fluids, take two aspirin and call me in the morning. That will be $75.”

“Hmmm, in my professional opinion, its not monkeypox, sars or west nile virus. And even if it were, so what. Go hiking. Wouldn't you rather die on the trail anyway?”

“Stovie, take lots of Vitamin C and Zinc. Drink hot tea to open your sinuses. Get lots of sleep but exercise to keep the circulation going to help your immune system clean out the virus.”

Take whatever Alka Seltzer plus applies to what you've got and go backpacking! Take plenty for on the trail as well.

Or not - still take the Alka Seltzer plus, but curl up on the couch with the tv remote and your favorite blanky and rest. Find a hot babe (or a bunny boiler) to feed you chicken soup. :)
