odd/sad rocker storyView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 12 of 12 messages posted.
Friend long gone and I didn't notice. “I was thinking of some old friends I lost touch with long ago. Bill and Lori lived together and were friends of mine. They both played with local Rock 'n' Roll bands, playing with and opening for people who went on to commercial success or legendary status. Lori played with a group called The Dangerous Birds. After Bill and Lori broke up and I got married, Lori dropped off my map and out of Bills life. Having finished a major project, I fished around for info on them using their names and bands they played in and found this: Perhaps following the lead of one-time lover Rick Springfield in 1982, Thalia Zedek made the successful transition from daytime television to rock 'n' roll superstardom. Leaving the role of Audra on The Guiding Light to front the overnight pop sensation Dangerous Birds Uzi, whose debut release outsold the Go Go's that year. Thalia was on top of the world -- that is, until tragedy struck in 1983: the Dangerous Birds flew a final time when all its members save Thalia were struck down in the ill-fated Korean Airline disaster. So, apparently Lori died in the infamous KAL-007. (very weird, because Bill had played in a band called 007). Lori called me once after an argument with Bill - she had cut her hand banging on a window as he drove off to work. I came over and cleaned her up, bandaged her hand and walked with her to Longfellow park. They stayed together through that and took me out to a Greek Restaurant on Mass Ave as thanks Oddly - I had a sort of protective sense about her after that and feel a pang of guilt over losing touch. I wondered if one reason he was even more grateful than she was while she was glad I was there for her, he was grateful that I didn't put the moves on her while she was feeling needy, abandoned and in the mood for revenge and he was feeling he deserved it. I lost track of Bill, too. Last I knew he had moved to Portland Oregon - but he had moved again when I was in Oregon and I couldn't find him. Lori was a total Patti Smith fan... she wrote self published poetry and had stuff published in a Patti Smith fanzine. http://www.matadorrecords.com/come/biography.html” 1:26:33 PM 6/11/03 “The reason it feels odd is that this happened 20 years ago. I read about the crash, forgot about it and had no idea that someone who had been a good friend had died in that incident.” 1:29:06 PM 6/11/03 “That's sad , Ped. I feel for you. Only recently, I found out that a friend of mine I used to hang out with in the radio days in Florida named Billy Jones (from The Outlaws) killed himself about 10 years ago. I lost touch with him in a similar fashion as you described and wasn't aware of this thing happening. I understand the sense of loss...” 1:31:37 PM 6/11/03 “It's an odd thing ain't it tree? Thanks.” 1:39:44 PM 6/11/03 “You got it, man. Just gotta roll with life's punches sometimes...” 1:40:51 PM 6/11/03 “Just couldn't let it go by without a few words.” 1:48:55 PM 6/11/03 “Five years ago on June 6 one of my friends from my days in Boy Scouts('63-'69) died in a freak accident. I hadn't seen him in thirteen years. Oddly enough, he was born on December 7.” 1:55:28 PM 6/11/03 6:38:40 PM 7/25/07 “I can honestly say I don't remember them...and I kinda feel lucky” 6:42:04 PM 7/25/07 “ ”6:48:37 PM 7/25/07 “People who might remember that were too stoned to remember. Awful is not descriptive enough for that.” 6:50:05 PM 7/25/07 “Space Oddity is a very good album. That parody "the Conchords" was mildly amusing at best.” 7:46:13 PM 7/25/07
