Viewing Fireflies at Elkmont
I am running away from home by myself tomorrow. I plan to hike some and then I'm going camping at Elkmont to stay out and see the synchronus fireflies. Anyone ever done this bit before? I wonder if they are just around over there or if there are better spots than others to see them?

Yeah, the fireflies are very cool. THey were starting up when I was there in May.

Is it too late for input?
G00SE and I did a bit of that for our honeymoon last year. I don't know if they're anywhere else or not. There's an old road through an abandoned tourist village right next to the Elkmont campground that is a good place to check them out. Some of the old abandoned houses can be a bit creepy in the dark though.

I don't think so. Too hot and the fireflies are gone by then. We went the first week in June and it was very nice.

Not too late! Thanks my friend!
Thanks skullcap for the input and the tip on where to spot the "lightnin bugs"! It was so overcast and yucky today I decided to wait til tomorrow. I also had a j-o-b interview at UT today so I was glad I waited. I am planning on camping that night by myself and it gives me time to break my husband in to the idea. He is a big worry wart. I'm trying to be a brave tiger and go alone, but he doesn't want me to. Thinks a bear will make a snack of me. LOL I say the bear would think I was too mean and full of gristle.

The most aggressive criter I've seen in Elkmont is a raven after my breakfast.
