I was thinking to my self that I want to get more tan this summer. Then I decided to do some research on tanning, and what is the safest way to do it, since it is clear to all that long exposures to the sun is harmfull. The research came up with both tannig beds and standerd sun light is equaly harmfull in the ways of early aging and skin cancer. But the article never spoke about those instant tan goo stuff. I've never tried it, and was wondering if it is just as harmfull.

Get this... I had skin problems in the late 70s. Went to a dermatologist. He gave me pills to make a person tan better! (maybe my sky was oily and it would help dry it out???) DANG! Try to do that now!!!!!

The stuff you want is basically a vitamin. I've seen lots of it on the shelf.

Bottom line for me-I've seen lots of skin cancer due to sun exposure, I've never seen it from vitamin A exposure. (Just don't eat polar bear liver).

I pulled this woman over the other day that had that tan in a bottle stuff on--didn't look anything like a real tan. The palms of her hands were orange from applying that junk. All she was missing was some Sun-In for the hair, and she could have been the queen of my double wide trailer.

Tanning beds are better known as "cancer coffins."

Strange how Micheal Jackson wants to be white, and some whites want to be tanned.

Funny black is the absence of color!
Getting alittle sun is good for the body, but Tea not every 'whitey ' is the same. If you don't tan well you should take the necessary precautions to avoid getting burnt. Long sleeves, wide brim hat, good SPF lotion. If you turn pastie white in the winter, and burn real easy come your first sunning exposure, odds have it that your skin will never tan as easy as some others.

I tan pretty well, even in the dead of winter, I will have color. I would say if you don't have a 'greenish', olively skin tone you should avoid over exposure escpecially in the peak hours.

Don't sweat it whitey!!!

Tea, UV exposure to the skin causes too much damage and increases skin cancer risk as most people know. I don't know about the creams to darken the skin, but you can always ask your doctor about them. I've had so much UV damage to my arms that I can't wear long sleeves and this was only from riding a bike and fishing not from sunbathing. I've had over a dozen actinic kerotoses removed (precancerous lesions), one basal cell carcinoma and a recurring squamous cell skin cancer on my wrist. So far it hasn't come back or go into lymph nodes. UV exposure just isn't worth the risk.

I know what you mean about biking richb. I get lots of comments on what a great tan I have and I'm trying to NOT tan. I put sunscreen on every morning, and again before I go biking at 5pm.

I never sunbathed because I couldn't sit still long enough, then I sailed for several years, and a few of those summers I tried to get as dark as I could. In just those few years I got so many freckles and moles.

I recently had my first "piece of the sun" removed, fortunately it wasn't serious.
