Now that is just what the nation has been waiting for breathlessly lo these many years. I always did say that two dollar bills would cure the ills of the economy. Yep, sure 'nuff did!

I'm one of the few people in the country who likes the dollar coins.

Here's what we should do, but never will, because politicians are involved:

Eliminate the dollar bill, and replace it with dollar coins.

Print more $2 bills so people don't have to carry all those dollar coins if they don't want to.

Eliminate the penny, and round all prices to the nearest nickel. Sometimes you'll round down, sometimes up, in the long run it'll average out.

Change all the coinage and take the pictures of presidents off of them. Our coinage is moribund because they all have constituencies.

If we do all this, the cash drawers don't even have to change, because you're subracting one coin and one bill, and adding one coin and one bill. The only thing that has to change is people, but unfortunately that's the hardest thing to change.

I hate dollar bills!! - what an expensive ploy to make you think you have cash in your wallet, only to realize you possess 17 singles. Come on people, move with the times, oh, and go metric too, it's not that tough!

The stamp machines in the post office give them as change. They'd be used more if the dollar bill disappeared. I think some of the vending machines in my building take them.

I think coins and bills should honor some of the other presidents:

Martin Van Buren
William Henry Harrison
Benjamin Harrison
Calvin Coolidge
James Buchanan
Warren G. Harding
William Howard Taft
William Jefferson Clinton (featuring Monica wearing THE blouse on the reverse)
Richard M. Nixon (with the Latin translation of the inscription, Not a crook)
Rutherford B. Hayes

Just to name a few

Come on Lyra, we invented all those quirky Imperial measurements and we managed to change to something actually based on logic ;op

Here's an interesting effect: Because the U.S. is still using English units, and because until the '70s sometime (and maybe still, I'm not sure) the U.S. was far and away the leading producer of steel pipe, all Metric steel pipe sizes are English sizes translated into Metric units. Or at least they were 20 years ago, that might have changed by now.

"I'll take 100 meters of 102mm pipe, please..."

lol, ynami...there was no excuse for that, supposedly the scientific disciplines standardized on the metric system decades ago. I'm guessing that contractor is out of business now.

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese tourism authorities are seeking investment to build a novel concept attraction -- the world's first "women's town," where men get punished for disobedience, an official said Thursday.

The 2.3-square-km Longshuihu village in the Shuangqiao district of Chongqing municipality, also known as "women's town," was based on the local traditional concept of "women rule and men obey," a tourism official told Reuters.

"Traditional women dominate and men have to be obedient in the areas of Sichuan province and Chongqing, and now we are using it as an idea to attract tourists and boost tourism," the official, surname Li, said by telephone.

The tourism bureau planned to invest between 200 million yuan ($26 million) and 300 million yuan in infrastructure, roads and buildings, Li said.

The motto of the new town would be "women never make mistakes, and men can never refuse women's requests," Chinese media have reported.

Going to the dollar coin would truly suck. OSHA would then require dancers to wear saftey goggles while doing pole routines.

Fishnets, 8 inch spikes and goggles do NOT define sexy.
