"It's almost like I'm in Baghdad. It's like a war zone. I've got screaming F-16s flying overhead," Melbourne Village resident Robert Larkin said after some F-16s flew over his neighborhood one night last week.

Indialantic resident Cynthia Ferguson said after F-16s flew over her neighborhood last week. "I was outside, and I had to put my hands over my ears. It was deafening."

And the recent introduction of F-16 fighter jets to Melbourne International has generated a new round of complaints from residents near and far from the airport because of the roaring sound.

The Netherlands military jets returned to AeroGroup last week for a monthlong training session. The company hopes to sign a long-term deal with the Netherlands that could bring its fighters jets to Melbourne for years to come.

Plane noise sparks loud complaints

These jets are many times louder than commercial jets. A quiet city and the surrounding area has been transformed. I may have to become a protester.

I would think that it's rather diffucult to fly those things whilst wearing wooden shoes...

Send them to Jacksonville. They would be welcomed.

One block from your home?

No. actually it's little further than that. More like 2.5 miles.

We get Naval aircraft of all stripes flying overhead at all hours. The frequency and duration varies depending on what units are deployed.

The F16s I can deal with. The helo's flying slow and LOW all nigh long get irritating after a while.

It would be cool to deploy a radar decoy in a field near your house, HPM. When they do that hovering trick, turn it on remotely and watch them freak as their threat receivers tell them they've "painted"...lol...

Of course you could end up doing time too, but hey, the price you pay for a little fun...

I can't believe I'm the only one surprised by the fact that the Netherlands HAS an air force.

Of course they do, Nigal. It's stationed in Melbourne, Fla. They couldn't find enough room for a landing strip in Holland...

Because attacking France through the Low Countries is what the Germans do, man...they were just being models of Teutonic efficiency when they took over the Netherlands, sort of a, "Well, why not?" deal...

I give it another 30 years. The Krauts'll be hankering to march downtown in Paris again, and swoosh through Belgium they'll go....

My belt became green tonight.
Class went good tonight. I was advanced to a green belt (my fifth color). Next will be brown and then I'll have an opportunity to try for the black. It will likely take me a couple of years. Not too bad in a physical contact martial art for a septuagenarian.

Father Goose - You're on a roll. I'm LMAO.

Odds are the Netherlands has nothing newer than the C model F-16. Sixteen Charlies don't have long legs, so you'll want to target the tanker support.

A small town is growing!
"Big jet flies into Melbourne on Friday

MELBOURNE, Fla. - A Boeing 747 jetliner is scheduled to land early Friday at Melbourne International Airport.
... airport officials said they wanted to announce the landing so local residents would not be surprised by any noise from the huge 747."

Thanks, HogOnIce. With your posting of the link direct to the article, I finally see how to obtain the direct address to similar things that do not contain the address line.

Also, I have been lazy about making links under time limitations while posting at libraries.

The sound of jet fighters flying over the Northland won't be silenced anytime soon
"148th to keep flying mission

AIR BASE:A federal base closure commission votes to keep F-16 fighter jets in Duluth, rejecting Air Force recommendations.

BY SCOTT THISTLE

It's nice to read that some other locations have to suffer with the noise, like we did in Melbourne. Thank goodness the Dutch Air Force has not returned to Melbourne.
