Need opinions and suggestions please?
If I were going to Lake George, NY and were a little tight on time, what waterfalls in that area are THE best ones? Ones not to miss? Thanks in advance for any help offered!

hmmm..waterfalls near Lake George?

I've been there a couple times and I can't remember any that stand out..

If I think of any I will let you know.

There are some neat falls in South Glens Falls - I think it is about 30 miles south of Lake George.

I don't recall any waterfalls in that area other than the dams. Lots of hiking around Lake George & away from the village, the Northern end is VERY nice. I go there often as my brother-in-law & hiking/canoeing partner lives there. He hikes EVERY weekend for the last 30 years. I'll ask him.

My brother-in-laws response.....
That's a good question. Hague Brook on Route 8 has a
fairly big
waterfall about 3/4 of a mile from Lake George.
Northwest Brook on the
back side of Tongue Mt. has a waterfall about 1/2 mile
in from Northwest
Bay. Just north of the Mother Bunch Islands there is a
cliff dropping
down to the lake that has very huge ice dropping down
each winter. It
might be a waterfall in spring. It's kind of an
intriguing question. I
have camped on the Islands south of Hulett's Landing
in April and the
only sounds you could hear were waterfalls dropping
down from the
mountainsides but I can't say I have ever tracked on
down.

If the Waterfall Queen were to be driving up the NY Thruway to Lake George, than she MUST SEE, I repeat, she MUST SEE Kaaterskill Falls in the Catskills. It's less than a 30 minute drive from the Thruway and less than a mile hike.

If I were to be driving around NY looking for waterfalls, as I imagine the Waterfall Queen would want to do, I'd visit the Finger Lakes Region. It's quite a bit south and west of Lake George, and although I've never been there, I have a book called "Waterfalls and Gorges of the Finger Lakes." Wow, there is some awesome beauty in that area.

Thanks Again for your Assistance
I am always impressed by how if there is an answer under the sun for a question... it can ususally be found quickly and easily on TT! You'uns are somethin else awhile! Much obliged. I will let you know how it goes with the NY waterfalls. With your suggestions, I got to reading up on Kaaterskill Falls and the Hueletts Landing area, etc. Wow! What a gorgeous place!
