SOURPUSS SICS COPS ON LEMONADE KIDS

Meet the meanest man in New York.

A bitter pretzel vendor put the squeeze yesterday on two kids who set up a lemonade stand near his Fifth Avenue cart.

Roman Md, 27, felt that Max Mortimer, 8, and his 3-year-old brother, Nicolas, were slicing into his business.

So he told a cop they were selling lemonade without a permit.

And the cop ordered the fresh-faced kids to pack up and leave.

It's the pits, and the boys' incredulous baby sitter.

"He asked us to move because the vendor complained. He said it affected his business," she said.

"They're just kids selling lemonade on the street. It's an American tradition."

The seedy tale of "pulp fiction" occurred at about 1 p.m.

Max and Nicholas, who also sold cookies, set up their stand on the Central Park side of Fifth Avenue across from their apartment on 67th Street.

A sign in red marker read, "Lemonade 50 cents."

Max wore a chef's hat.

His brother helped with the change.

At one point, there were a handful of kids buying lemonade.

After that, business was more sporadic.

Nevertheless, it brought a sour taste to Md, who also sells soda and ice cream from his cart about 20 feet away.

He went across the street to the police booth in front of the Yugoslav mission and complained.

A cop, shrugging to indicate his hands were tied, told the kids to move.

So they packed up their cooler, their cookies and their table and downheartedly trudged across the street to their home.

Md, a Bangladeshi immigrant who's been a vendor for five years, said he had seen the kids selling lemonade on four previous occasions.

"I was telling them to move down a little so it didn't affect business," Md said. "I told the lady, 'If you're selling stuff over here, it's a problem for me. Can you move or go in the park?'"

"If they stayed, I would lose business - more than $200," he claimed. "They sell a lot of drink and a lot of food." "I

told the police, 'I like kids, too, but if they're selling over there, people will buy from them.'"

Md said he can take in from $100 to $2,000 a day, depending on the weather.

"It's a hard job," he said.

Jane Rudolph, a spokeswoman for the Parks Department, which licenses vendors on both sides of Fifth Avenue along Central Park, said there had been no complaints about the kids. "No one's reported it to us. So I can't comment on it," she said. "I haven't got any complaints from the vendors."

If these kids knew anything about marketing ... everyone knows beer goes better with pretzels ... a little cross merchandising goes on long way on the mean streets of NYC.

Yup.

This is exactly the sort of cruelty you get when you have a Republican Governor (Pataki) and a Republican Mayor (Bloomberg). Of course neither of them can match the viciousness of Rudy Giuliani when it comes to dealing with street artists, homeless people, children or others without power or money.

Of course everything will improve once William Jefferson Clinton moves into Gracie Mansion.

I do think it’s good that we can put away certain gender biased labels and find more politically correct terms for women such as Hillary. Next time I feel compelled to call someone a bltch I’ll simply call them a “tough guy”.

I truly hope that we would have a better person than Hill's to try and be our first woman President. We're over due for a Female in the Oval Office (some might say that Bush is a bigger pu$$y, but we'll leave that alone for now), I would have a heavy heart if it was her.

Laqtis, what is your perception of Hillary? I would give her some serious consideration, if she were to run in the next election.
And, this question is for everyone, why are we so sure she even wants to run for president?

Assuming that Hills does want to run, and there's every indication that her aspirations reach pretty high; I'd have to say that she appears to be cut from the same moral and character cloth as her husband. The whole marraige for convenience and power is a dead giveaway, and that move to New York is not even a veiled attempt at a power grab. She wants the position for all the wrong reasons.

I would say that most "marriages of convenience" don't produce a loving daughter and two parents who are devoted to her. The Clintons have their faults, but their marriage might be more of an indication of their strength and fortitude than any other measure. Just a guess on my part.

With all due respect to Roam, that assessment is presumptuous enough to qualify as a family insider. I am venturing a guess that this is not the case. She is a Senator from my home state and, although I hardly track her every mo ve, I have a working knowledge of the issues she has pursued on our behalf in Washington. Frankly, I couldn't come anywhere close to making an assumption like that about the reasons she married her husband...

Frankly, I like our two senators. Chuck Schumer is from the old neighborhood in Brooklyn and fights for lots of causes beneficial to us in the city. The same goes for Hillary. So, she's from Arkansas? Hey, in a mobile society such as we live in, where distances between places have taken on a whole new connotation, I see no reason to bring out that archaic 'carpetbagger' BS argument. Frankly, she is doing a pretty damn good job representing us in Washington, from what I can see. Now, go ahead! Rip me up...

NYC Murder Rate at 50-Year Low

New York is reportedly on pace to record fewer than 500 murders this year for the first time since 1961.
The New York Daily News says there have been 215 murders in the city through June 19th, compared to 259 at the same time last year.

The drop is even more significant when compared to 1990 when the city had a record 2,245 homicides.

The city's police commissioner is crediting "good policing work by great police officers."

all of NYC's thugs are moving into Allentown, Reading, Harrisburg, Lancaster and York, PA. It's amazing how many NY license plates you see when you go into those inner cities. As NYC's crime rate descends PA's city's crime rates climb.
