“Hey, Adventurist. I was thinking of joining you guys on this trip. I'm still not sure what other people have planned for me that weekend. (I may have a wedding to go to on Friday night). I won't be able to get Friday off from work  so I will have to go in on Friday night. From you trip description it sounds like you will be staying at or near the Janacks Landing Shelter. Let me know if this is true. I'll keep you posted if I can make the trip.”

“I think HPM is outdoing you on the sweat part right now. The temps at nearby Bishop have been and will be above the 100 mark. That dummy's hiking so cal in summer!”

Since we want to climb Cat Mtn. we may go past Janacks and find a camp somewhere at the base of Cat Mtn.

How far do you have to drive and what time do you get off of work?”

“I just updated the trip plans for SYAO.

I just wanted to give everyone ideas of mileages. The mileages I have listed would be the "possible" maximum distances that we could do each day. There are plenty of opportunities to adjust along the way.

Friday's maximum may be 7.1 miles.

Saturday's maximum may be 10.8 (including the packless side excursion to High Falls).

Sunday's maximum mileage may be 10.6 miles.

If you have maps handy or can go to the Topozone map that I have a link to on the Trips Page you will see that the contours are very forgiving through this area,
not at all like the High Peaks.”

Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. Internet just came back up. I work just outside of Albany, so it will take me at least 4 hours to get to the trailhead. I generally get out of work at 4:30. I’ll try to get out at 3. Guess that means I’ll be walking in the dark. I should know by the end of the week if I can definitely go on the trip.”

“If anything you could hike in Saturday morning and wait for us at Sandhill Junction....”

“Well the wedding is the following Friday so it looks like I can make the trip. :)”

I'm really getting excited about this trip....some of the trail descriptions I've been reading sound really interesting!

For example: "...the trail reaches Little Shallow Pond where another Lean-to is located. Little Shallow, like all the five enchanting ponds that have given their names to this entire wilderness area, is a shallow kettle hole lying among some of the most magnificent eskers in the Adirondacks."”

“I think I'm going to try for the Midnight run and come Friday night.”

“Crazy P and I probably won't reach the campground until the wee morning hours Thursday night...

“I'll drive straight from work. If I don't think I'll make it to the campsite Fri. night, I'll pitch the tent some were off the trail and head for the camp early Sat. morning. Although it seems I’m starting to get good at the night hiking. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of it.”

“I don't have a problem with you bringing your friend. The only way I would object to the dog is if his dog is a barker....

“The only time she really barked this past weekend was at some loons on the lake, but she lost interest with them after about 30 seconds.”

My next door's neighbor barks for atleast an hour at a clip....

I can't go outside without it starting to bark....

Also I'm hoping on seeing wildlife....from what I gather there is a possibility of seeing some wildlife on this trip, besides the TTers....”

“Well I don’t think barking would be a problem with Sherpa-man’s dog. But it doesn’t mater if a dog can’t bark, a dogs sent will deter wildlife to some extent. The last thing Sherpa-man would want to do is to impair someone else’s experience. I’ll bring up the dog concerns with him the next time I talk to him (probably tonight).”
