You say you have a month available. What about budget? Is this shoestring, budget, or are you a person of some means.

“No doubt in my mind. Alaska or the Alps. Find the cheapest flight you can. Use hostels or camp. Use the railroad in either place. Instead of going into Denali Park, consider the backcountry off of the Denali Highway.

August is my favorite time in Alaska. The bugs are not so bad, the weather can be Indian Summer or like fall. In the higher elevations or father north, the tundra colors are amazing in the fall.

For the Alps, I'd find the cheapest flight and go Eurail/hostel, get into the high alps and go hut to hut.”
