Most of the protesters objected to Bush's environmental policies, while a few protested the war in Iraq. About 10 people held signs touting Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

Frank Del, 71, of Livonia, carried a sign denouncing Bush for causing the deaths of hundreds of U.S. troops and yelled at passers-by, "You're not supporting this guy are you? He's going to give us Armageddon." The Korean War veteran also shouted, "There was 11 more (troops) killed today and more to come."

Del's antics brought one violent response as a white male who appeared to be in his 20s punched Del, hitting him relatively lightly on the shoulder, but causing Del to fall on the grass.

Two Macomb County Sheriff's deputies who were nearby quickly handcuffed the assailant and whisked him away to a patrol car. But he was released when Del said he would not press charges.

Del's comment brought other verbal responses from people walking past him. One man responded, "Tell bin Laden."

“ROCKFORD -- A judge has ordered the conditional release of a Rockford man who kept a hit list of high-ranking U.S. officials and celebrities, such as former Attorney General Janet Reno and filmmaker Michael Moore.

Michael Breit, 20, faces federal explosives charges. Police found the hit list in his apartment last month along with an arsenal of firearms, knives, bomb-making materials, ammunition, such books as "The Anarchist Cookbook" and "The Turner Diaries," and threatening personal writings and drawings.

There were seven names on the list: Reno, Moore, U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, Sarah Brady, Rosie O'Donnell, U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle and Dan Ortiz, whom court documents say is a political supporter of presidential candidate John Kerry. Each name had the word "marked" written next to it. Breit allegedly told investigators that meant "marked to die."

Rockford police took Breit into custody April 18 after investigating a report of shots fired at Breit's Sunnyside Drive apartment. Breit told police he accidentally shot a round from his new AK-47 assault rifle into a door frame as he attempted to dismantle the gun. Police asked Breit if they could look around. That's when they discovered the cache of guns and bomb-making materials.

Breit allegedly told investigators that he was stockpiling weapons in case there was a revolution and he needed to use them against liberals. Police say they found an essay Breit wrote, "Revolutionary Strike Force," which outlined a plan to kill 1,500 people at a Democratic presidential caucus.

Breit faces federal charges of illegally receiving explosives with intent to use them to kill, injure or intimidate any person, or damage or destroy any property. If convicted, Breit could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

"I was told to get the football," White House Chief of Staff Alexander M. Haig Jr. told Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger less than five months before the president's forced resignation, during a conversation in which the two men exchanged stories about Nixon's increasingly erratic behavior.

"What do you mean?" asked Kissinger, who had called Haig to express concern that the president might unwittingly unleash a Middle East war with his new, get-tough policy against Israel.

"His black nuclear bag," replied Haig. "He is going to drop it on the Hill."

The March 20, 1974, exchange is among 20,000 pages of transcripts of telephone conversations that Kissinger deposited in the Library of Congress in 1976 with the stipulation that they remain secret until at least five years after his death.

“GRANBY, Colorado (AP) -- A man barricaded inside a fortified bulldozer went on a rampage Friday, firing shots and knocking down buildings as he plowed through the streets, witnesses said.

It was not immediately known whether anyone had been injured.

"He's got gun turrets," witness Scott Schaffer told KUSA-TV. Another resident, Judy Craig, told the station she heard heavy damage was done to the town library and city hall.

State Patrol Maj. Jim Wolfinbarger said officers told him the driver had aimed his weapon at propane tanks. Gov. Bill Owens alerted the National Guard and was prepared to send troops to the town if requested, but local authorities had not asked for that help, Owens spokesman Dan Hopkins said.

Store owner William Hertel said a man he did not know drove by his business in the bulldozer at mid-afternoon. He said the machine took out a wall of the library and part of a new bank building.

He took out the trees and light pole in front of Hertel's store driving back and forth through the town, Hertel said.

"I was up on the roof when he came by. I got down and got my wife and kids out of the back of the building," Hertel told The Associated Press. He said he had heard numerous gun shots.

Lurlene Curran, the Grand County manager, said to her knowledge no one had been hurt. She said at least five buildings had been damaged.

"The piece of equipment is so big it's hard to stop," she said. "We're doing everything we can to stop this chaos."

Granby, a town of about 2,200 at nearly 8,000 feet, is about 50 miles west of Denver.

The bulldozer knocked out natural gas service to City Hall and a cement plant, Xcel Energy spokesman Mark Stutz. He said one truck and a wall of the utility's service center had been damaged.

The scene was reminiscent of a 1998 rampage in Alma, another town in the Colorado Rockies. Authorities said Tom Leask shot a man to death, then used a town-owned front-end loader to heavily damage the town's post office, fire department, water department and town hall.

"And I'm going to be blunt and plain: If one ever looks at me like that, I'm going to kill him and tell God he died," Swaggart says, to laughter and applause from the congregation.

On Wednesday, Swaggart said he's jokingly used the expression "killing someone and telling God he died" thousands of times, about all sorts of people. He said the expression is figurative, and not meant to harm.

The Audi pulled to a stop, and the kid saw his chance. He took off running. The Audi peeled off in a different direction.

Then the kid heard a siren. An Akron patrolman had witnessed his desperate departure, according to the police report. The cop stopped the car and questioned the driver. The man told him he'd picked the kid up, but he was too drunk and had hopped out.

But the kid, fearing trouble, doubled back to the cop car. Gasping for breath, he relayed his version. The man had tried to touch him, he said. He had to run. "You can arrest me for anything you want right now," he remembers saying.

The cop took the driver's information and let him go. Then he told the kid to relax, something like "What are you doing getting into a stranger's car, anyway?" He offered to take the kid home.

Then a second black-and-white pulled up. The officer gestured at the departing Audi with its ARA 1 vanity plate. "Do you know who that was?" the kid heard him ask. "That was Alex Arshinkoff. He's the chair of the county Republican Party."

“GLENSHAW, Pa. (AP) -- A legislator was charged Wednesday with lying about a white powder he claimed was inside a letter mailed from a critical constituent, and with retaliating against and harassing those who questioned his political finances.

Republican state Rep. Jeffrey E. Habay, 38 - who is awaiting trial on ethics charges in an unrelated case - claimed he got the letter at home in May and that it had a suspicious white substance inside, raising fears of possible anthrax contamination.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said the substance was harmless.

Habay, a lawmaker from Allegheny County elected to a sixth term in November, faces 20 new counts as a result of the latest complaint, including a felony charge of possessing or using a "facsimile weapon of mass destruction."
