Shuttles in Yosemite

“Anyone have any info on shuttles other than YARTS or the regular Yosemite Hiker Bus? YARTS isn't running on weekdays yet and The hiker bus takes about 3 hours to get from the Valley floor to Tuolumne.

Looking for a ride either from Tuolumne to The Valley or Vice Versa.

“There isn't any other than what you mentioned.

“To just drive from Yosemite Valley up to Tuolumne Meadows takes about 1.5 hours, so 3 hours isn't all that bad...unless you are in a hurry.

Are you planning to hike from Tuolumne to the Valley?”

“That's it! I do this with one of my buddies, and my brother in law every other year. We camp at Cathedral, Sunrise Lakes, Near Cloud Splitter, etc... Hike up half dome, then drink frosty beers in the valley.

When you put it that way, 3 hrs isn't so bad. Not in a real hurry, just don't like the idea of sitting on a bus for 3 hrs. Sounds like a great way to start hiking stiff.

Do you know about any camping opportunities near Quarter Domes?

“We were planning to drive from Visalia up through Yosemite and back down to Mt. Whitney in a day, just to see Yosemite. But it occurs to me that I should ask...what can you really see driving through Yosemite? Is it worth driving all the way up there if we don't have time to stop and hike?”

“I haven't personally camped at the base of Quarter Dome, but would like to some day. I know you can and that water is available at a spring about a mile from there. Just make sure you get a backcountry permit.

I recently had a guy e-mail me via my website, "The Backcountry" and I told him about Quarter Dome. He sent me a few pictures from his trip.”

“The drive on Tioga Road (Highway 120) is one of my favorite roads. The scenery from Tioga Pass to a few miles past Olmstead Point is nothing short of spectacular...or at least as as good as it gets while still in your car.

Every time I drive that road, I always stop at Olmstead Point to just take in the views.


To say is it worth it? That would depend on how much time you have for the "road trip". It is certainly a long drive just to see Yosemite and not hike it, but I also love to drive!”
