Eating for twoView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 24 of 24 messages posted.
“My question is for all the solo hikers out there. When you are preparing your dehydrated for you, it says "2 servings". In most circumstances: Do you eat all the food? Do you force youself to eat all the food? Do eat most of the food and dispose of it properly? Are those packages always too much and do you split it into two meals? Just wondering.” 1:27:33 PM 6/20/03 “For a minute there, I thought BigPopppa was pregnant.... ;)” 1:41:20 PM 6/20/03 “I knew I should have named that thread differently. Oh well, science has come a long way.” 1:59:07 PM 6/20/03 “I try to mix it up and repackage into zip lock bags. When rehydrating I pour the second serving into a bowl and zip into the bag and wrap with pack towel to keep warm.” 2:08:07 PM 6/20/03 “I eat the whole thing !!!!!!!” 2:09:14 PM 6/20/03 “Get real. Those packages might be enought food for two girl scouts but not for a growing man! ;) Yes, I eat all of it.” 2:13:27 PM 6/20/03 “When I go with the prepackaged dehydrated meals I tend to buy MountainHouse brand. (Hadn't seen the Enertia stuff before the last stock-up so gotta eat MH a bit first... :) Their idea of a serving is a bit "light"... guess they figure yer supposed to also buy their side dishes and desserts for dinner too and that those will fill you up. I usually end up just eating the whole thing 'cuz I don't mess with that other stuff.” 2:19:42 PM 6/20/03 “Hey, What about take a friend backpacking?” 2:21:34 PM 6/20/03 Enertia “I take Enertia a lot, single-servings + I think their stuff tastes better than MH or any of the others. Some of their meals are enough for one person, but sometimes I also make a cup of soup or a side of mashed potatoes, etc. Some of the other dehydrated meals "for two" I re-package at home & vacuum-seal the second serving. If I want / need more food I make a side dish of something else.” 2:37:11 PM 6/20/03 Enertia “Yeah, I had a chance to look at some of the Enertia stuff when I stopped by Walasa-Yi this past weekend. Thought about buying some to try out, but I didn't dare do so as I have a shelf of MH stuff I stocked up on earlier this year... Afraid I'd try it and never go back to the MH stuff! :)” 2:49:16 PM 6/20/03 “That's what happened to me Deeddawg, I have a ton of MH & Alpine in the garage, it's too easy to take the Enertia & no re-packaging required. Shelf life on the MH is years & years though, so eventually I'll use it up.” 2:54:38 PM 6/20/03 I was afraid of that... “it's too easy to take the Enertia & no re-packaging required Thats what I figured after seeing the stuff up close & personal. I think I made another boo-boo... was in Publix (grocery store) at lunch today to grab a deli salad and saw they had the Lipton noodle packets on sale at buy-on-get-one-free... Their new Asian ones are great with the 3oz foilpack chicken and a couple little condiment packs of soy sauce or duck sauce. At least I can slip the Lipton noodles in with regular family dinners here and there... :)” 2:59:52 PM 6/20/03 “deeddawg - You in GA? Please fill out your profile! We might be hiking together sometime.” 3:26:09 PM 6/20/03 “Eat it all. You need the calories.” 4:11:26 PM 6/20/03 “deeddawg - You in GA? Please fill out your profile! We might be hiking together sometime. Ah yes, profiles... I generally prefer to get to know folks before passing on much personal info. But yes, I am in the Atlanta area and don't get out on the trails nearly as much as I'd like. Mostly a matter of a myriad of time committments to family, Scouts, work, church, other hobbies, etc.” 4:30:53 PM 6/20/03 “deeddawg - That's OK except I hope your not one of those dang SEC UG dawgs supporters. I support the REAL Dawgs, the Mississippi State Univ Dawgs!” 4:35:13 PM 6/20/03 LOL... “No, the deeddawg relates to researching property deeds, something I spent some time doing in the past. My alma mater's team was the Big Red and the mascot is a bear. Let's just say that football wasn't much a priority there. It'd be interesting to see who can figure out the school. :)” 4:49:02 PM 6/20/03 “I'm sorry you had to go to an Ivy School. ;) Didn't know Cornell had a football team. ;)” 5:29:52 PM 6/20/03 Good job! “Indeed, "what football team?" is right. Mostly a matter of "they don't have oars, they don't have LAX or hockey sticks, must be that other game!". I think they chose red so you could spot them in the snow. :) Two seasons up there -- July and Winter.” 6:09:41 PM 6/20/03 “(aHem...) It was created by the Mississippi Legislature on February 28, 1878,..." http://www.msstate.edu/web/gen_info.htm "As with most universities, State teams answered to different nicknames through the years. The first squads representing Mississippi A&M College were proud to be called Aggies, and when the school officially became Mississippi State College in 1932 the nickname Maroons, for State's uniform color, gained prominence. Bulldogs became the official title for State teams in 1961, not long after State College was granted university status. Yet references to school teams and athletes as Bulldogs actually go back to early in the century, and this nickname was used almost interchangeably with both Aggies and Maroons, since at least 1905." . . . . "Use as an official game mascot began in 1935 when coach Major Ralph Sasse, on 'orders' from his team, went to Memphis, Tenn., to select a bulldog. Ptolemy, a gift of the Edgar Webster family, was chosen and the Bulldogs promptly defeated Alabama 20-7." http://www.mstateathletics.com/0,5604,1_36_0_222,00.html ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "When The University of Georgia was incorporated by an act of the General Assembly on January 27, 1785, Georgia became the first state to charter a state-supported university." . . . . Our first president, Abraham Baldwin was a Yale man. On November 3, 1920 Morgan Blake of the Atlanta Journal wrote about the school nickname and said, "The Georgia Bulldog would sound good because there is a certain dignity about a bulldog, as well as ferocity." On November 6, 1920 after a UGA football game, Cliff Wheatley used the name "Bulldogs" five times in his story and the name has been used ever since." http://georgiadogs.ocsn.com/traditions/index.shtml ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Could it be..... Cornell? ![]() SS, you KNEW a REAL Bulldog Fan couldn't let a crack like that go by unchallenged, <VBG>” 6:12:28 PM 6/20/03 “Oh... and when it comes to the pre-packaged deals, I'll either do the single servings and have a side dish, OR eat the double serving and have to choke down the last two bites, <grin> I don't want to deal with uneaten food.... and "a fed critter is a dead critter".” 6:30:02 PM 6/20/03 “GET AWAY FROM MY DINNER..... GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!” 9:41:44 PM 6/20/03 “There seems to be some confusion between dehydrated and freeze dried foods. Freeze dried foods reconstitute much quicker than dehydrated. You can pour boiling water on freeze dried food, stir, stir again and you can have something that resembles food. Dehydrated food needs to soak for a while and or cook for a while. Dehydrated food takes more fuel to cook than freeze dried and you usually have to dirty a pot.” 9:59:52 PM 6/20/03 “I have no problem eating the two serving meal. I normally eat every two to four hours when I'm not hiking/backpacking I will still be hungry looong before the sunrise.” 11:08:49 PM 6/20/03
