Pliable Also Means It'll Bend Under A HeavyCookpot
I'm sure it works, but I wouldn't trust it with much weight ontop.

yeah but if you were concerned with the weight of your stove i doubt you'd be carrying that heavy cookpot...

I've seem those. Fold once into shape and leave it that way. After several folds and unfolds the tabs break off. As long as you don't fold and unfold, it's OK.

My website has better designs for esbits.

My concern was not the cookpot itself which'll make it "heavy"...it's the weight of the contents within that may gravitationally smoo#&%!$h...add heat and the pliability most likely would increase the likelyhood of bending under weight.

That star stove/stand is a great idea, though.

$h!t...it seems to me that the Pepsi can stove is the apex of the ultra-light movement...smoo$h!t, smoo$h!t, smoo$h!t...

...take that, Buddur...

Can An Apex Have A Flat Top???
I've been using a sodacan stove for more than 3 years now...take that FG. lol

My cookset consists of the stove, clotheshanger potstand, Al foil windscreen and windlid, potgrabbers, 60ml bottle of DnA (a weekends worth), spoon, lighter, and it all fits into my 5"dia x 2.5" Al cookpot and lid using a wide rubber band to hold the lid on and contents in. Scale says it weighs in at 11.5oz. How's that for ultralight?

"Can An Apex Have A Flat Top???"

If a bear $h!ts in the woods and there's no one around to smell it, does it stink???

why do you need the pot grabbers Buddur? A bandana works just fine.

I've got a v8 can stove (like the pepsi, just smaller), and an ezbit stove. The stove and stand are sound, only it's a bit heavy. Now when I use my esbit tabs I just turn my v8 can over and viola a new esbit stove. I also use a coat hanger as a pot stand. It just took a little careful bending to get the pot stand just right. It works great now!

I use the alcohol stove as my #1, and the esbit tabs as back up. They burn real hot, one night on halfdome I melted 2 quarts of snow for water with one tab. Of course that was melted, not hot.

Esbit is definitely a light weight stove, but alcohol is the cheapest fuel. Esbit is about 50cents per cube.

So--it is 50 cants a tab. How much you gonna use? 2 tabs a day for three days is $3. Think what we spend to get weight down and it is not out of sight.

Well no, not expensive, but in compairason to the alcohol fuel, esbit costs more. It's also a matter of getting the stuff. I tend to order one box of 12 tabs per year with what has become my anual spring order of gear from Campmor. They charge a standard fee of $7.50 for shiping and handleing. I don't think there are any local stores in Fresno that sell esbit stoves or fuel. Shoot I couldn't find it on campmor until I ran a search for "esbit". I don't think they even list it on their product page.

Bandanna schmandanna HOI. Why would I want to take a chance and fumble by sticking my dry bandanna and non-scolded fingers around the hot pot and water when a 1.6oz potgrabber is waaaayyyyy easier to use? Seriously, c'mon man, at that weight, we're pickin' hairs now.

well OK Buddur - if you are not comfortable with the idea then HYOH

it is my opinion however that the technique is safe - make a strap with the bandana, wrap it around the pot and pick up pot by pressing the strap with index fingers and thumbs - back when I was using the wally world grease pot that was what I ended up using - I admit to starting with the pot grabber but switched to the bandana after only a few trips.
