I know they are offered on trailquest.net but the store is closed for summer hikes. Where else can I find one? Are the durable for mostly on-trail use?

currahee, the water bag I used on the Fiery Gizzard trip only weighs 3 ounces and it holds 2.5 gallons of water. Somehow it got some pin holes and leaked water. I called campmor and was ordering another one, then I happen to mention why I was buying another one and the guy I was talking to told me they would send me another out no charge. Ver nice of them to do that.

We ended up buying one at campmor after we saw ewkers at RRG this past march, very convenient!

I wonder if I could just put handles on my waterproof pack cover and use it for both a cover and a waterbag?!It weighs about the same as the coglans bag and is even the same color. Multi use gear!

Or use an Outdoor reasearch waterproof stuff sack and can store whatever in it.

I have one and carry it, but have only needed to use it once. It too some how got pin holes in it and I don't know how that happened. I hope to use it more often, or it's going to find itself out of the pack for trips.

laqtis, I take mine on ever trip. I have stuffed in the same sack as my water filter. Even with pin holes it still works, just have to fill it a little more often.

I purchased one after seeing Ewkers. It makes a heck of a difference for the weight and the price.

One reservation I would have in using a silnylon waterbag is that it probably wasn't tested for use as a water container to see if any nasty chemicals could leach into the water. After handling silnylon the silicone remains on your hands a bit so that tells me that some probably would make it's way into the water. My guess is that it is not tested as safe for use as a water container. Until then I would use other alternatives.

I have one of those, haven't used it in years. I'll send it to anyone who wants it (if I can find it). I hate that pain-in-the-ass thing. I use a bucket from LLBean that stands by itself. Probably weighs more, but a heck of a lot easier AND I can wash my hair in it.

whoops, not the silnylon bucket, the bucket in Ewker's picture.

sorry!

K-mart as well as wallmart sells them also 3-4 bucks!

At least twiggy doesn't use that old "can't go, gotta wash my hair" excuse to not go backpacking.
She brings her own hair washing bucket.

richb, you raise an excellent point about the health concerns of silnylon. For me its not an issue as I use a purifier not a filter which is designed to remove chemicals. Now I just need to stop eatin the stuff...

I just thought about it because lately I've been working with silnylon and it felt like some silicone does get on your hands. I would guess some would get in the water too. I don't mind it on my hands, but I don't want to drink the stuff.

Rich, I imagine that silicone isnt good to ingest. One would hope that such a product would be tested.

I'm not a chemist so I don't know if it can be toxic, but whoever is making this product might want to check to see if it is safe for use as a water container before they put it on the mass market.

Pennsy wants dibs on Twiggy's bag!
Hey Twigster - If you are donating Ewker's water bag, bring it with you on our Maine trip please? Assuming this is the bag steady Eddie Ewker used on the Mt Roger's trip, I thought it was pretty handy.

This is a nylon bucket?

I think I prefer Nigal's Wal-Mart sack canteen.

I'm going with the same type bag as Ewker. Binks emailed me & is gonna bring me one tomorrow night. I wondered about the safety of the silnylon bag myself.

Silicon isnt all that safe in large quantities since a broken implant usually requires removal but the small amounts transmitted from normal contact wouldnt be harmfull. I use and handle the stuff all the time and I havent noticed any unusual symptoms like odd psychopathic behavior. Have you? :}

Can Someone Clarify Please?
Are y'all talking about a water bag to dunk into and bring water out of the source...so you can filter/treat the water from the bag???

Yeah, Dodder gets the credit for us having a nylon water bucket also. We have the one that Ewker's link shows. You guys know that if you can find the leaks you can patch them the same way you can patch a tent, right?

skully, mine had to many pin holes to repair and I think it would be extremely hard trying to find them.
