Central Park, NYC

“Hey City Dwellers!!

I've been gaining interest in Central Park since all the publicity surrounding is upcoming 150th Anniversary....

Anybody have pictures that I can check out? Anybody have their favorite things to see and do in the park? I've been there breifly before and I would like to go there and just make a whole day out of wandering around in the park.

Maybe we could do a midweek TT day-trip there?”

Is it a must do? How hard is it to get reservations?

Central Park on the weekend is the best because that's when you get a good glimpse of "city life". There are street performers tucked in so many wonderful niches!

As for the best parts? Wander around the lakes and go off trail - you'll find some lovely quiet spots.

In general - just wander about!

Tavern on the Green is ridiculously expensive. Why not prepare a romantic picnic instead for you and the Mrs?

“LOL! No, that would be Mr. Bungle. Unfortunately, they broke up. I'm sure that really broke Ice Tea's heart.

I just confirmed it on their website, the White Stripes will be playing at Central Park on July 23rd. It's part of the "Summer Stage" concert series, which used to be free when I lived there. I imagine it still is.

If you go, I'll guarantee you'll think they are amazing. If not, I'll personally refund your price of admission.”

If you go to the center of Strawberry Fields and find the 6 or 7 dudes that are playing the best frisbee you'll ever see...if I had stayed in NYC back in the late 80's, there you'd find Stikmon on saturdays and sundays, playing "B" with those dudes.

Go look for Alice and her friends...there is sooooo much to see in the park...have fun...I miss it dearly!!!!”

It's our 2nd wedding anniversary today and the Mrs. has always wanted to go to Central Park so I was thinking of taking her sometime over the next 2 weeks.”

“Parking in midtown is impossible without putting it in a lot for extraordinary money. For your purposes (if you don't want to spend the money) it would pay to maybe park it in Jersey by the PATH train and take that in and use public transportation. If it is a weekend, you whould be ok to do this and not have to pay a lot in Jersey. You can go wither to Harrison or Newark. If it is a weekday, you may have to pay up to 10 dollars to park out there and you would probably have to get there before 10 AM. Only other alternative is parking in Brooklyn or Queens and subway in from there...”

“It will probably be a weekday and in the late afternoon....this way we will be going opposite the traffic?”

“like I said you can park you car in Brooklyn and take the subway in. you can get a Day ticket for about $5.00 and ride train or bus all day.
plus you would ride the train over the Broolyn Bridge. thats a nice ride.”

“You may have some luck with parking in Joisey at that time. The early birds may be making their way home towards that time and open up some parking. Plus the price is probably lower. The boroughs are also an alternative as we said above...”

“It's been a while since I parked in a garage in that area. What do they run now - about $25 - $30? For a one time thing, I would think it would be easier than shuttling around unfamiliar territory.”

“coming in from Jersey, either park in Hoboken or Jersey City and then taket the PATH train, as has been previously stated. DO NOT GO DRIVING INTO THE CITY!!! It is not a place for amatuers. Parking in NJ is FREE if you look for it and maybe want to walk a bit, I used to park in a parking garage in Hoboken and go city tripping for an entire day.

Have a good time and go to McSorley's Ale House or Kenny Castaways.

LOL.....Actually I have driven in the city atleast a dozen times.....its just the parking part I hate.
