Central Park Info “Hey City Dwellers!! I've been gaining interest in Central Park since all the publicity surrounding is upcoming 150th Anniversary.... Anybody have pictures that I can check out? Anybody have their favorite things to see and do in the park? I've been there breifly before and I would like to go there and just make a whole day out of wandering around in the park. Maybe we could do a midweek TT day-trip there?” 6:16:23 PM 6/22/03 “Also I've never eaten at The Tavern on the Green.... Is it a must do? How hard is it to get reservations? Which room do you recommend?” 6:18:13 PM 6/22/03 “Adventurist, Central Park on the weekend is the best because that's when you get a good glimpse of "city life". There are street performers tucked in so many wonderful niches! As for the best parts? Wander around the lakes and go off trail - you'll find some lovely quiet spots. In general - just wander about! Tavern on the Green is ridiculously expensive. Why not prepare a romantic picnic instead for you and the Mrs? Give a shout out when you'll be in the city - maybe we could all get together for a drink and some music?” 6:23:34 PM 6/22/03 “You should go July 23rd. I'm pretty sure the White Stripes are doing a free concert there on that date.” 6:35:04 PM 6/22/03 “Are the White Stripes a band that plays funky clown music?” 6:46:48 PM 6/22/03 “LOL! No, that would be Mr. Bungle. Unfortunately, they broke up. I'm sure that really broke Ice Tea's heart. I just confirmed it on their website, the White Stripes will be playing at Central Park on July 23rd. It's part of the "Summer Stage" concert series, which used to be free when I lived there. I imagine it still is. If you go, I'll guarantee you'll think they are amazing. If not, I'll personally refund your price of admission.” 6:52:01 PM 6/22/03 “Thanks Twinks... We'll definitely give you a shout when we are in town....” 6:53:01 PM 6/22/03 “hmmm...White Stripes... I guess at Free I can't go wrong.” 6:54:12 PM 6/22/03 “White Stripes plays a lot of Dolly Parton tunes and TV theme show songs. Artex goes off the wall when they play "Friends."” 7:13:55 PM 6/22/03 “artex slaps his forehead while looking down and shaking his head” 7:24:15 PM 6/22/03 “LOL! Just where are the Tree People to post on this thread? Did they have a rough drive home? We went a different route and avoided all the construction that ruined the drive down to MD.” 8:25:14 PM 6/22/03 “Unfortunately, the Central Park SummerStage is not free anymore. And the White Stripes ticks are sold out. I was planning on going too - probably will resort to scalping day of.” 9:44:49 AM 6/23/03 surprised...NOT!!! “It is no surprise that Twinkle Toes wants to get together for drinks...she (and Mapleleaf) has a big reputation for being a lush...LOL. If you go to the center of Strawberry Fields and find the 6 or 7 dudes that are playing the best frisbee you'll ever see...if I had stayed in NYC back in the late 80's, there you'd find Stikmon on saturdays and sundays, playing "B" with those dudes. Go look for Alice and her friends...there is sooooo much to see in the park...have fun...I miss it dearly!!!!” 10:12:08 AM 6/23/03 “It is no surprise that Twinkle Toes wants to get together for drinks...she (and Mapleleaf) has a big reputation for being a lush...LOL funny part is, I dont drink. I just love getting together with my friends :)” 10:17:03 AM 6/23/03 “It is true, Mapleleaf did not have a margherita this weekend, but the rest of us made up for her.” 10:20:00 AM 6/23/03 “stikmon - I still play 'bee in the park a few times each year - same place you're talkin' 'bout - but not once so far this year cause of all the rain. Playin' some paddle ball today - first time in 3 years!! Expect to badly injure something...maybe just my dignity!” 11:04:56 AM 6/23/03 I use to play B with the Rasta's... “in Washington Sq park...gettin stoned and playin B...awsome times!!!” 2:43:45 PM 6/23/03 “Soooo...where should I park if I am going to the city just to walk in the park?” 1:27:00 PM 7/21/03 “Take a cab.” 1:27:52 PM 7/21/03 “ok...where should I park if I'm going to take a cab? I'm not going to take a cab from PA....” 1:29:53 PM 7/21/03 “Brooklyn. then take the subway. when are you coming in? need a tour guide?? HAHAHA” 1:30:37 PM 7/21/03 “seriously? That would be the best place to leave my car if I'm driving in? It's our 2nd wedding anniversary today and the Mrs. has always wanted to go to Central Park so I was thinking of taking her sometime over the next 2 weeks.” 1:32:53 PM 7/21/03 Adventurist “Parking in midtown is impossible without putting it in a lot for extraordinary money. For your purposes (if you don't want to spend the money) it would pay to maybe park it in Jersey by the PATH train and take that in and use public transportation. If it is a weekend, you whould be ok to do this and not have to pay a lot in Jersey. You can go wither to Harrison or Newark. If it is a weekday, you may have to pay up to 10 dollars to park out there and you would probably have to get there before 10 AM. Only other alternative is parking in Brooklyn or Queens and subway in from there...” 1:37:22 PM 7/21/03 “It will probably be a weekday and in the late afternoon....this way we will be going opposite the traffic?” 1:53:10 PM 7/21/03 “like I said you can park you car in Brooklyn and take the subway in. you can get a Day ticket for about $5.00 and ride train or bus all day. plus you would ride the train over the Broolyn Bridge. thats a nice ride.” 1:53:17 PM 7/21/03 “there is NO OPPOSIT TRAFFIC in NYC. haha” 1:55:27 PM 7/21/03 “You may have some luck with parking in Joisey at that time. The early birds may be making their way home towards that time and open up some parking. Plus the price is probably lower. The boroughs are also an alternative as we said above...” 2:06:14 PM 7/21/03 “NO OPPOSITE??? Is all bad, huh?” 2:10:52 PM 7/21/03 “It's been a while since I parked in a garage in that area. What do they run now - about $25 - $30? For a one time thing, I would think it would be easier than shuttling around unfamiliar territory.” 2:19:29 PM 7/21/03 from a former NY commuter... “coming in from Jersey, either park in Hoboken or Jersey City and then taket the PATH train, as has been previously stated. DO NOT GO DRIVING INTO THE CITY!!! It is not a place for amatuers. Parking in NJ is FREE if you look for it and maybe want to walk a bit, I used to park in a parking garage in Hoboken and go city tripping for an entire day. Have a good time and go to McSorley's Ale House or Kenny Castaways. man, I miss the city.” 12:09:16 AM 7/24/03 “DO NOT GO DRIVING INTO THE CITY!!! LOL.....Actually I have driven in the city atleast a dozen times.....its just the parking part I hate. McSorley's Ale House? Sounds familiar....where is it?” 5:49:44 AM 7/24/03 “Hey,Stickmon. Kenny's Castaways was always an old hangout for me. I love the Bleecker Street bars (Back Fence, Bitter End, Mills Tavern, which isn' there anymore) I took Pathman drinking down there when he was here a few months ago...” 7:39:42 AM 7/24/03 Adventurist “McSorley's Ale House is in the East Village on Seventh St. I believe it's between 2nd and 3rd Aves.” 7:41:54 AM 7/24/03
