I never let the rain stop me from going on a dayhike. I bring a 6X8 tarp to eat my lunch under, full rain gear, umbrella and a pack cover. I'll fish in the rain too and sometimes the fish like the rain, especially right after it stops. The only thing I don't do on a rainy day is go mountain biking, but only because there's too much maintenance to do on the bike afterward.

I went hiking yesterday, but it only showered of and on and it was really muggy. I'm not sure if I was wetter from the rain or sweat. Plus I'm getting ready for a trip in BSP, so I need to get in all the hiking I can.

Adventurist..I was just teasing about getting out and doing it. I don't have any rain gear myself. I avoid the rain especially in the winter. Now, summer that is a different story..a couple of weeks ago I was caught in a down pour and I have to admitt it was a wonderful experience...kinda magical in a way.

I'm fortunate, I've seen rain. I just hope my kids get to see it some day.

I've seen enough rain for one hiking season. I'm kinda glad this season is over.

Dewd, I was going to post that!
But instead...

"Look out of any window, any morning, any evening, any day.
Maybe the sun is shining, birds are singing,
No rain is falling from a heavy sky.
What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
For this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago.

Walk out of any doorway, feel your way, feel your way like the day before.
Maybe you'll find direction,
Around some corner where it's been waiting to meet you.
What do you want me to do, to watch for you while you are sleeping?
The please don't be surprised when you find me dreaming too.

Look into any eyes you find by you, you can see clear to another day,
Maybe been seen before, through other eyes on other days while going home.
What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago.

Walk into splintered sunlight,
Inch your way through dead dreams to another land.
Maybe you're tired and broken,
Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear

What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain, and love will see you through.

Just a box of rain, wind and water,
Sun and shower, wind and rain,
In and out the window like a moth before a flame.

And it's just a box of rain, i don't know who put it there,
Believe it if you need it, or leave it if you dare.

And it's just a box of rain, or a ribbon for your hair;
Such a long long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

I know, I know, Jerry's gone...

Just be careful, Adventurist, that you don't short out the Discman or wet your ZigZags!

Seriously, a rainy day is a great opportunity to hone your wet weather equipment & technique. I have taken my raingear, tarp, stove, etc. just to see how they work (or don't work) when you need them most. Better to work out the bugs on a day hike than when you really neeed them.

I figure a rainy day is a cool day to go explore along the shore of a lake for amphibians....
