Mapleleaf, car camping near people is pretty much standard. I just got off the phone with a friend who said that you can camp at Little Pond in the Catskills and row across to your very secluded site. There is a bathhouse at the parking lot area with showers. I haven't found a reservation phone number yet.

Maple try the finger lakes, Saranac and Tupper lakes, should be some lake camping up there.

we are going to Saranac in July. Its such a long ride for an overnight. but thanks for the suggestions.
I was hoping to do a campout on the water. not car camping. you know when the only way to get to the site is on the water!
Lyndy, if you find the info that would be great!

There are lots of private sites on the Delaware but very crowded with city people & you know how they are :-) The Adirondacks is nothing but lakes. Indian Lake & Sacandaga Lake (not the resovoir) both have car camping on the lake at state sites. Horseheads lake has primative camping at the lake. etc, etc
