Wide Boot choices
I have size 12 EEEE feet (no, I don't run around naked in the Pacific N'west) and I wanted to get a nice pair of Gore-Tex or equivalent heavy boots. I've tried Asolo wides and they're toooooo narrow. Don't want to spend more than $175.00 or so.....

I know this sounds funny, but Birkenstocks now make a selection of hiking boots and shoes. You might try them.

I have the same problem to a lesser degree. I need about a single E width. Most boots are D and if they have 'wide,' it's usually described as EE. Soooo... too much or not enough, LOL

I just had a flash... HEY, this is the Internet(!), so I did an Alta Vista search on 'wide'+'hiking'+'boots'.

LL Bean started as a shoe store. I think they carry extra wide sizes. Vasque has some EE, but I don't know if they would be wide enough. Asolo are not wide enough for my feet either.

Bass Pro shops and Cabelas sell XXXL stuff they might have wide boots.

Wide
Raichles run wide and Vasques have narrow, medium and wide sizes. Lowas also come in wides and are comfortable. Both my husband and I have wide feet and have been happiest with the Lowas, though we have used Raichles and Vasques because of their wide sizes in the past.

I have a pair of Asolo's, but I need a lighter pair of boots. I have been looking at the Lowas. Which ones do you have and how long was the break in time?

I have EEE shoes (only 9 1/2 though) so I keep track of who has wide shoes.

Dunham has some hiking boots that go EEEE

LLBean goes mostly to EE

I did fine with an EMS Summit Wide, but it might not work for you.

New Balance trail runners go to EEEE

It may also be worth looking at north face stuff, I got a pair of their trail runners and they have this lacing system that allows wide feet and narrow feet in. It seems to work pretty well, and my feet are 4E I think

Lowas
We use the Renegades - mid-height for me, mid and low tops for Jim. They have been great - with no break in at all, and no blisters. He wore his on half the CDT thruhike and all of the PCT thruhike and ever since. (Multiple pairs - they seem to last about 1000 miles, better than the Vasques.) I didn't start wearing them until about 3 years ago, when we got back home and have been very happy with them.

Thanks Ginny
Just a couple more questions. How is the ankle support? Also, are they waterproof?

I have some Dunhams that may be the most comfortable boots I've ever owned.

EEEE is an option.

Thanks ynami! I checked them out on the website. Yup, they have them on sale for $99.00. If they are lighter than my Asolo's and still provide good ankle support, they might work for me. I will try them on at the outfitter first though.
