Wide Boot choices “I have size 12 EEEE feet (no, I don't run around naked in the Pacific N'west) and I wanted to get a nice pair of Gore-Tex or equivalent heavy boots. I've tried Asolo wides and they're toooooo narrow. Don't want to spend more than $175.00 or so.....” 8:35:50 PM 6/24/03 “I know this sounds funny, but Birkenstocks now make a selection of hiking boots and shoes. You might try them.” 8:42:21 PM 6/24/03 “I have the same problem to a lesser degree. I need about a single E width. Most boots are D and if they have 'wide,' it's usually described as EE. Soooo... too much or not enough, LOL I just had a flash... HEY, this is the Internet(!), so I did an Alta Vista search on 'wide'+'hiking'+'boots'.” 8:59:18 PM 6/24/03 “LL Bean started as a shoe store. I think they carry extra wide sizes. Vasque has some EE, but I don't know if they would be wide enough. Asolo are not wide enough for my feet either. Bass Pro shops and Cabelas sell XXXL stuff they might have wide boots.” 10:26:51 PM 6/24/03 Wide “Raichles run wide and Vasques have narrow, medium and wide sizes. Lowas also come in wides and are comfortable. Both my husband and I have wide feet and have been happiest with the Lowas, though we have used Raichles and Vasques because of their wide sizes in the past.” 10:48:14 AM 6/25/03 Ginny “I have a pair of Asolo's, but I need a lighter pair of boots. I have been looking at the Lowas. Which ones do you have and how long was the break in time?” 1:04:27 PM 6/25/03 “I have EEE shoes (only 9 1/2 though) so I keep track of who has wide shoes. Dunham has some hiking boots that go EEEE LLBean goes mostly to EE I did fine with an EMS Summit Wide, but it might not work for you. New Balance trail runners go to EEEE” 1:14:22 PM 6/25/03 “It may also be worth looking at north face stuff, I got a pair of their trail runners and they have this lacing system that allows wide feet and narrow feet in. It seems to work pretty well, and my feet are 4E I think” 1:17:42 PM 6/25/03 “Good grief, you guys have gun boats for feet!!” 1:19:24 PM 6/25/03 “well you know what they say about big feet CD” 1:20:30 PM 6/25/03 “Ummmmm.....big feet, warm heart?” 1:23:26 PM 6/25/03 “that's it.... how did you guess?” 1:34:03 PM 6/25/03 Lowas “We use the Renegades - mid-height for me, mid and low tops for Jim. They have been great - with no break in at all, and no blisters. He wore his on half the CDT thruhike and all of the PCT thruhike and ever since. (Multiple pairs - they seem to last about 1000 miles, better than the Vasques.) I didn't start wearing them until about 3 years ago, when we got back home and have been very happy with them.” 1:37:49 PM 6/25/03 “I think they're on sale at Sierra trading post right now. I think...” 1:42:37 PM 6/25/03 Thanks Ginny “Just a couple more questions. How is the ankle support? Also, are they waterproof?” 1:44:18 PM 6/25/03 “I have some Dunhams that may be the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. http://www.nbwebexpress.com/category_d.asp?type=mhiking EEEE is an option.” 1:46:40 PM 6/25/03 “Thanks ynami! I checked them out on the website. Yup, they have them on sale for $99.00. If they are lighter than my Asolo's and still provide good ankle support, they might work for me. I will try them on at the outfitter first though.” 1:50:45 PM 6/25/03
