Thinking about trying to organize a canoe (or kayack) trip down the Delaware with an overnighter thrown in.

Anyone interested?

If so - I'll start posting links...

maybe, drawback is that the river gets very crowded.

I don't know of any other accesible places I can get to and still be able to rent canoes and camp.

I'm more than open to your suggestions

Where you thinking over the weekend or during the week? I love paddling the section north of Port Jervis! Right now the river is really high but that could change in a week or two.

By the way how is looking for SYAO? Figure a way to get to the trip?

Two years ago a bunch of us did 35 miles and three nights on the Delaware.

We started at Milford, Pa and got out where I-80 crosses the river.

The river was not crowded until Saturday, the day we got out.

There is a good pizza joint in East Stroudsberg, Pa. for the after-trip "banquet".

also you might want to look into an outfitter.

Check out the Juniata River in Pa near Harrisburg. Millerstown has an outfitter. Lovely river to paddle and spots along the shore to beach and camp.

My preference is the Upper Delaware, it is part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The Upper Delaware has some small rapids where as the section between Port Jervis and the gap is more placid.

Here are a few links

juniata is very nice, great fishing.

twinkle, a weekday trip on the del will avoid the crowds, as you already know.

maybe we can canoe the susquehanna, it's not that much further from the delaware.

I'm not a water guy but you might want to take a look at Kittatinny Canoe for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and camping along the Delaware near Port Jervis.

I did my one and only pro photo shoot for them 2 years ago and some of my pics are on the website and their brochure.

Either of your dates work for me too Maple. The NH trip is the weekend of the 17th.

PS - I don't want to take any time off of work for this trip so it will have to be a weekend.

I've looked into the Juniata River. It's up the Susquehanna a ways from Harrisburg. I saw lots of water.

The Delaware is just past Joisey. The Juniata is way past Joisey, in Hobbitville.

yes. i am still going.

July 11th-13th

I'm thinking of putting in, at the Worthington State Park entrance.
Not sure if I will have time to paddle a little ways to find a camp (they suggest that you are off the river before dark). I will not be leaving NY till around 3:00pm Friday. With drive time and traffic, I think I might be able to get a little ways on the the river.
Then find a camp for the night.
Then the next day paddle and then find another camp for the night.
Sunday paddle back to the Park, then home.

If you're paddling upstream, leave more time than it took to go downstream.
Geobeet
2:46:37 PM

well i wanted to start going upstream, then on the way back, let the river do most of the work and carry me home!!
mapleleaf

Upstream, looking for a work out? You better hope it doesn’t rain any more. The river is high and flowing fast for an upstream paddle. Remember to wear your life vest. Of the last 41 people to drown in the Delaware none were wearing a life vest.
