Howdy everyone, I am back from a two week all expense paid trip to Fort Hunter Ligget!
After a lovely two day convoy in our over loaded Humvees from Reno, through the blazing hot San Jauquin valley to San Robles (the closest town I can remember to the fort) we went right to work. On the first day my platoon proceeded to break two of our Humvees climbing up an impossibly steep hill to our work site. Day two, we rolled one trailer over on the way back down the hill. Days 3 through 5 we worked in one location because we were running out of trucks. Day 6 was way cool, we took off on a patrol through the hills and spent three nights out on the trail practicing camoflouge and silent movment techniques. On day 10 we started cleaning up our gear and getting ready for the drive home. On day 11 we took a day off in Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo, this was one of my favorite days!! We finished off by driving back to Reno the same way we came, man those Hummers need some air conditioning and softer seats.
Anyway, I am happy to be back home and have some access to the internet so I can get my TT fix.

Welcome home!
Didn't know when you were going, I have a trip this week but lost your email :(. Do a search for a thread entitled "Hey Tahoe".

Sounds like a scene out of the movie "Stripes". :)

Yeah, it was something like Stripes. The training was good, with some quality instructors.
The best part is that we all made it home safe.

Tahoe, your report sounds just like a web based game my bro-in-law is playing right now. THe driver took the truck off the hillside. Twice.

Sounds like "fun."

My brother spent a few years at Hunter Liggett (he's still in the Army, but stationed somewhere else). Sometimes, if they were tired, they would deliberately get themselves "killed" during war games so they could nap inside their air conditioned tank. Once, they got to help out a film crew doing recruiting commercials for a few days. Also, Liggett has a lively population of tarantulas, much to the delight of my brother's kids....

One thing I forgot to mention, I was reading Edmund Hillary's bio in our down time. On the cover the word HILLARY is in big bold type. One of my buddies come by and says "Man I can't believe you are wasting time reading that bit@#es book!" He was talking about Mrs Clinton's book of course. We had a pretty good laugh after he realized which Hillary the book was about!

LMAO Taho - was it a good book? Maybe I'll have to pay Latta Outdoors a visit!
