Is there any way to not have talking banner ads, or ads with sound? Those are almost as annoying as the infamous "flying suitcase" ads.

Of course I can mute the volume, but I'd like to be able to use the fact that I have speakers on my computers, to like, tell me when I have mail and stuff, ya know? What I don't want is some damn ad audibly telling me how great their product is.

Meg Ryan was from me and my "Bored at Work" thread. I posted a picture of her and a picture of Avril Lavigne asking if anyone else thought they looked similar. Hey! It was titled "Bored at Work!!!"

Sorry. : (

But yeah the talking ads must go! Especially the First Alert one. It keeps chirping at me and it's really obnoxious. I'm with bit. I want to keep the sound on my computer and don't want to mute all the time.

I am tired of those "fill out our survey" and receive xbox, ipod, computer...etc... no obligations... crap!

RIGHT!!! Tell that to my kid! They are everywhere! Even the survery banner for coke or pepsy...same #&%!$!!

WTF??? I can't stand them! blink, blink, blink....crash, boing...whaaa whaaaa...

Thank god I didn't see one yet that makes noise.

that reminds me...why is my ad or popup blocker not working on them?

Question: Has anyone ever received a PS2 or X-box or I-Pod for doing one of these things?

What I want to know is if someone has, what did they do to receive it? I know that it cannot be as east as shooting the I-Pod.

It's real easy WK. All you have to do is give them your credit card and social security number.

they will send you through a hundred different questions...asking you if you want to sign up for this and that.... bla bla bla

still assuring you that you are not obligated to sign up for anything...

about 1000 more questions.... [they continusly assure you that you don't have to sign up for jack]...

oh...after those 1,000 questions they finally get to the "offer section"....select "no" and continue to the next 1,000 offers...

now... it's time...NOW those #&%!$s want you to sign up!!!!!

I think you have to send in 3 offers or so...then you should receive whatever they have promised you.

i actually doubt it because well...they lie to you from the begining...so why not now??

my kids constantly used to click on them...oh...and yes, I did click once.

they have those banners for everythign
'think marihuana should be legal...yes/no...receive visa gift card'...

newest one:
gas prices to high? yes/no

FREAKS!!!! that should be illegal.

an approach that worked for me once upon time - get Ethereal or some other sniffer type network monitor - get it monitoring your traffic out of the machine you are using - click on something that causes a banner ad to come up - stop the trace on Ethereal and pick out likely looking addresses for where the banner ad is coming from - configure your firewall to block those addresses - refresh the screen and see if the ads are now suppressed

Oy. Like the one that showing to the right on this page, for me right now.

Please take our survey, you don't even have to bring it back.

It doesn't even say what the survey is for. It must be for people who are addicted to this sort of thing.

yupp bit...just like that one!!
isnt' that considered false advertising? I mean...come on.....

Anyway...I want my freaking computer, my kid wants the ipod, oh...and the other kid wants the xbox please!!

HOI...there too many out there. I already have so many blocked, I don't understand why I see them. I wonder if there is a new script out there that ignores all the spywares... i may need to check my spyware and ad remover. Maybe I somehow disabled it.

but if you blocked all banner ads then you wouldn't have the pleasure of seeing the one with the gigantic spider crawling across your screen.

Most of the ads don't bother me - I can ignore them easily enough - but the "lowermybills.com" banner ads do something that blocks the rest of the page from loading on my home (windows 98) machine. As soon as I see one of their ads, I hit 'refresh' so some other ad shows up. Don't they know they're losing my business?!

I was noticing that the other day about banners from the New York Times. I'd have to hit refresh to get the page to load. It's annoying.

I hate mouseover ads too. You know, the ones that expand when the cursor passes over them?

And what does that really say about the people they're attempting to sell to? "ooh, look, big shiny, me click".

uhhhh mouseovers are the worst!!! one some of them you have to really look hard to find the 'close' button...and i even saw one the other day that had a button that looked like a close button, but wasn't... sucks!!!

helinka...THAT spider banner is what made me click on it today... [you are talking about the ghost banner right??] and guess what it was??? exactally what I am complaining about!!! it had NOTHING to do with ghosts at all! not a thing...nada, nix, niente
