“an approach that worked for me once upon time - get Ethereal or some other sniffer type network monitor - get it monitoring your traffic out of the machine you are using - click on something that causes a banner ad to come up - stop the trace on Ethereal and pick out likely looking addresses for where the banner ad is coming from - configure your firewall to block those addresses - refresh the screen and see if the ads are now suppressed

“Most of the ads don't bother me - I can ignore them easily enough - but the "lowermybills.com" banner ads do something that blocks the rest of the page from loading on my home (windows 98) machine. As soon as I see one of their ads, I hit 'refresh' so some other ad shows up. Don't they know they're losing my business?!”
