Another Onion fan in the ranks. You should check Scrappleface.com out. Kind of like Onion's lesser known hillbilly cousin.

I lost my audio system to the floodwaters of the hurricane.
It was a nice one and I am going crazy with just a cheap radio to listen to tunes now.

I'm thinking of going even more crazy and buying a surround sound/video in a box system.

What's the best sound for not to much money nowadays?
I'm looking at the Onkyo HT-S780 Home Theater In A Box right now, but I can't tell if it has a phono (turntable) input.

I have a DVD so don't need that in the set.

I seriously doubt if it does. But you can get one of these to convert the signal to something that will work with your new stereo. I need one too!

According to this page at Crutchfield.com, no, it does not have a phono input.

That's weird! I looked at that same page and where it says "No" on your page, it said "---" on mine.

I guess not to many turntables being sold. ;-)
Guess I'll join the 2005's and do without or else get a cheap preamp.

Even the most expensive system in that category doesn't have a phono input. Get what you can afford and buy a preamp.

I have far more important things to buy, but I think I might treat myself to this as a Xmas present to myself.

My CD deck and turntable were above the water so I still have them, but no amp or speakers.

I miss my tunes.
I still have my CD collection. I boxed the four big boxes up and took them with me when I ran from the hurricane, LOL.
Allstate is screwing me on the roof and I need something to cheer me up.

I think I still have a few 8 track tapes in a box at my parents.

The Onkyo (Japanese word for acoustic or sound, or so I hear) equipment is really good stuff. You engineering types might call their amplifier sections "overbuilt" even. Very load stable. Not very familiar with their latest stuff. Has been awhile since I worked retail. I have an older surround receiver w/just Prologic, Hall, etc., but haven't had any problems out of it, (about 13 years old). It does have a phono input, but then again, that was 13 years ago:)

Same here, Stovie. I have an Onkyo system about 15 years old and it is still going strong. Yes, it has a phono input and I even have a turntable. No albums anymore...think I left them at one of my ex's house...can't remember which one. House or ex, for that matter. My remote is fried, though. Battery acid ate the little wire thing at the bottom and not sure how to fix it. Looking for a spare on Ebay these days. I am also getting an Ipod for x-mas and Onkyo makes a dock for the Ipod to connect to their system so you can listen to the Ipod through the stereo. Can't wait to set it all up! I have Bose speakers that are also 15 years old.

I still have the old Kenwood system I bought in the 70's, with Reel to Reel Tapes of some REALLY hard to find tunes.....
