Ahh Tilt, but for every right wing flake there is an equal and opposite left wing nut decrying the fall of America, throwing out "war for oil" and other wacko conspiracies like candy at a parade!

could it be possible that persons who populate the volunteer armed services are so much more likely to be of a conservative bent to begin with?

Well, I guess some are more willing to sacrifice for their country while others are willing to sit back and enjoy the fruits.
But hey, who says an army of Stratdewds is a bad thing? There used to be an arcade game where "music is the power!" lol.
Sorry Strat, it was right there in front of me.

Absolutely --- flakes on both extremes, no doubt about it.

I respect those who serve, but I will not worship them. I grew up during the 60s watching the body count every night on television. From my earliest memory until I was 17 we were ensnared in a questionable war.

Needless to say, when I reached the age of majority, I wasn't the least bit interested in trusting my existence to politicians.

There are quite a few people from that era who chose to forego military service in Southeast Asia --- some who sent troops into harm's way just recently.

Again, to return to the subject of the thread, I find that those who have actually been in combat are not nearly as flippant about it.

BTW the quote wasn't an example of you being a left wing nut. Now that I see it it kind of looks like that was what I was implying. Sorry about that. The quote was a segue into my next ramble.

I never met anyone as flippant as you seem to be.

Today my son is safely home on leave. If you want a gut check send your child into a war zone.

And you're absolutely right bacpac. But trying to use Clinton (again?) to misdirect attention away from the fact that Bush DOES use polls isn't working.

I cited your own (cut & paste).

Do you ever read what you post?

I don't think it is fair to accuse me of misdirection when I reference your source.

Republicans will improve the economy ...
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) -- U.S. unemployment rose to its worst level in nine years in June as businesses cut thousands of jobs, the government said Thursday.

Unemployment rose to 6.4 percent from 6.1 percent in May, the Labor Department said. That's the highest level since April 1994. It was also worse than the forecasts of economists, who on average expected a jobless rate of 6.2 percent, according to a Reuters poll.

Non-farm payrolls fell by 30,000 jobs, the report said, after losing a revised 70,000 jobs in May. The original May reading had showed only a 17,000 drop in jobs. Economists, on average, had expected no change in June payrolls, according to Reuters.

In a separate report, the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose to 430,000 last week, which also was higher than economists expected.

... and the republicans only improve the economy for the rich.

Rich get richer, poor get poorer, and the middle class lose their jobs. Unemployment normally goes down in summer. Thanks to Bush, the economy keeps getting worse. We need more tax cuts for the unemployed.

ok....let's make this perfectly clear once and for alll....

Alaska

comrad alaska obviously is blaming the tax cut for this.....so the logical conclusion would be to raise taxes to help the economy and unemployment. that's his answer.....raise taxes....and he thinks that will help...uhhmm...somehow all the unemployed people.....take more of their money...that'll solve the problem....i care so much for these people that i want to take more of their money to help them...and then he w3ants to give your money to a bloated, inefficient government.....BRILLIANT! ! !

now, did 9-11 affect the NY economy? how bout the NY city mayor? how bout the govnah?

i'll say it again....liberals will celebrate all the suffering it can. it will root for more of you to suffer, and try it's best to convince you that you are suffering. it is their only hope of beating bush.

If I don't believe in trickle down tax breaks can I be called a communist scumbag?Yes,the reason those who like these laws have renamed the 'employment tax',the 'unemployment tax',has become all to clear. The thought of cutting 'the working mans tax' is as distant as finding
Osama or Sadam. And the 'fix all' is????? Stop paying all taxes.

Ranger wounded in Iraq suffers from seizures, blindness
Associated Press

DERRY, Pa. - An Army Ranger from western Pennsylvania who was hit in the head by shrapnel during fighting in Iraq is blind and will likely suffer from seizures for the rest of his life, his family said.

"He woke up in the dark. And it's been dark ever since," Charlene Feldbusch said about her son, U.S. Army Spc. Jeremy Feldbusch, 23, who was wounded during a fire fight at the Hadithah Dam, near Baghdad, on April 3."

A wrestler, football player and honors student in high school, Jeremy Feldbusch turned down a chance to go to West Point Academy and instead went to the University of Pittsburgh where he received a degree in biology."

Another scumbag republican who encourages terrorism bites the dust:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Retired Adm. John Poindexter, who created a firestorm this week with his plan to create a futures market that would capitalize on predicting terror attacks, will resign in coming weeks from his post at the Pentagon, a senior defense official said Thursday.

The official said the research that Poindexter and his Total Information Awareness program (TIA) were conducting had become just too "unorthodox."

Poindexter, a central figure in the Iran-Contra scandal during the Reagan administration, had been causing a stir since he returned to the Pentagon in 2002 to head up the TIA research program to track terrorist activity.

But calls for his resignation intensified this week after his latest project -- which would have allowed investors to profit by correctly predicting terrorist attacks, assassinations and overthrows of regimes -- became public.

(CBS/AP) With a stroke of his pen, President Bush committed more money to Iraq on Thursday than he spends on any domestic program – more than $65 billion for military operations and almost $19 billion for reconstruction, reports CBS News Chief White House Correspondent John Roberts.

The president had wanted more, but Congress denied him what it called frivolous items, like $9 million to develop a zip code in Iraq; 40 garbage trucks at $50,000 apiece...

Bush wanted $9 million to develop ZIP codes in Iraq. Amazing.

Four more years!
