Anyone have braces?

“With the onslaught of stupid threads popping up I thought I’d ask my own silly question. Does anyone have braces? I might be getting them put on this month and wanted to know how bad it sucks to have them? I told my wife I wanted to get the glow in the dark ones.

if you get them, go for the bright orange ones. oh and you can change them to fit the season.

“My brother and I got them as teens. We never did figure out why Dad brought us to our favorite restaraunt for lunch and let us have all we wanted. Our teeth were so sore that night that all we could eat was white bread soaked in milk, no crust. We were crying and never thought we could eat again. After about a week we are chompin on steak again.”

“I had braces as a teen. When they pulled the brackets off and removed the rings from my molars, the enamel was all cracked. They claimed it was like that before, but I know that's a lie.”

“I had'em after a time served in some head gear. Monkeyboy was near dead on with a description. They'll hurt for a few days once they're on and then everytime after you go back in for adjustments. They might still give you wax to cover the hardware so your inner mouth doesn't get all cut up and has time to callusize. They might also use this inline hammer tool to pound down those molar anchor rings and other pieces. It tickles. And also they might give you a nickle bag of rubber bands to help with the pain. twang. You'll be finding and throwing those things out years after the braces are off.

Overall you'll be happy you did it. It work out well for me, I never had a tooth pulled. Tanks to me mum and dad.”

“Depends on which type you get. You're better off using these little lossing sticks to keep them clean anyways. Regular flossing can be a #&%!$. One of those water jet tooth cleaning systems is a good idea.”

“As far as foods that are out: really crunchy stuff, jerky's not recommended, gum, taffy or stuff like that, reaaly hot and cold stuff may cause problems if you go with the metal types, I found that on out. COuldn't drink hot beverages the netire time.”

“I had them when I was younger. Most teens go through a phase where they hate their parents, but I was able to channel all my aggressions out on my orthodontist. I was supposed to have them for a year and a half. The bastards made me where them for five.”

Actually, my 8yrold's dentist referred her to an orthodontist because her teeth are already getting impacted. The orthodontist said we need to have her upper eyeteeth pulled before she's nine, or it may cause problems. He also says if we do, there's a good chance she won't need braces.”

“I am interested also. I have been wondering about those kind they put behind your teeth.

My problem is a crossbite. Not sure what that means to the whole process. My oldest daughter has great looking teeth except for a crossbite. Ultimately decided not to get her braces.”

“I played softball when I had braces as a kid. My father was the coach, so naturally he pushed me to play my heart out. In one game the score is tied in the last of the ninth. 2 outs and I am on 3rd base. The pitcher throws one past the catcher and I take off. As I slide into home, the ball which had just left the catchers hand struck my in the mouth. The bottom set of braces completly fell off. The top pair, however stayed affixed. My upper lip became imbedded into the top set and had to be cut off. We won the game though.”

I didn't go for the clear ones, you can still see them and I didn't care anyway.
Yes it's uncomfortable when they get adjusted but after the first 30-40 times you get used to it. J/K mote like a few
Yes, food gets stuck in them.
I bought a box of those little kid toohbrushes cheap, the kind they give away. I kept a new one with me all the time that way if I went to a restaurant or somewhere I could just use it a throw it out.
also proxy brushes work good.
Food you can't eat? Well I used them for every thing I didn't like, "sorry, I can't eat that, I have braces"
Corn on the cob is a real mess, spinach too but not as bad. Like the others said, be careful with pocorn and other crunchy stuff. I don't chew gum anyway but they do have some that dosen't stick to braces.
Go for it, it's worth it.”

ROFL--I would pay to see that!

The top pair, however stayed affixed. My upper lip became imbedded into the top set and had to be cut off. We won the game though."

“I've had them. It sucks and it looks strang on older people. But, its only for like 2 years, and than if you where the retainer for 6 months strait after and every night, you teeth will still shift, but they will be better than what you had.

Some people get cavities due to braces, other people don't.

I never flawced when I had braces, it took too long.

I usualy don't smile with my teeth unless it is at girl I like, due to that I am used to hiding the braces for so many years.”
