“from SANS NewsBites July 2, 2003 Vol. 5, Num. 26 ********************************************************************* --Interior Ordered Off-Line Again (27/30 June 2003) US District Judge Royce Lamberth has ordered the Interior Department to disconnect from the Internet because it refused to cooperate with a court-appointed master who was to test the department's computer systems. Judge Lamberth allowed exceptions for "any system essential for protection against fires and other threat to life or property." Interior was also cut off from the Internet in December 2001, but most systems have been allowed back on-line since then, with the exception of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). http://dc.internet.com/news/article.php/2229391 http://www.gcn.com/vol1_no1/daily-updates/22575-1.html (free registration)” 7:22:50 AM 7/03/03 “Sheesh! Fine time to be offline. So I suppose the national parks are offline then? GEEEZZZ!!!” 11:40:00 AM 7/03/03 “Looks like Park Net is still up... for the time being at least. According to the story at internetnews.com (the first link), "The order did not make clear whether Interior sites such as a the National Park Service and the U.S. Geological Survey, which do not maintain or contain any Indian records, were part of the shutdown order."” 12:05:38 PM 7/03/03
