I's sitting here with a cool sweaty Corona Light (with a lime) on my porch, lounging on a dark green anorandak chair, enjoying the pure pleasures of no morning appointments, beautiful weather, and neighyborly conversations in the city outdoors.

Do any of you have porches? And, if so, do you view them as the TT of your neigborhood, like they were many years ago.

Viva la porcha!

I just had a Corona with double lime....

We have a deck on the front of our house which we want to make into a covered porch...then we can hang out there and drink coffee in the morning and beer at night!

Adventurist - do your neighbors come out and hang? Do you have the "porch conversations"?

Nah...they say Hi by the road but that's about it...we have about 100 feet setback from the road to the porch....

Would you like to be my neighbor?

I got a carport on the back of the house. We convert one of the bays to a "porch" of sorts. Got a hanging swing, a couple of rockers, couple of tables. It's nice.

When I sit on my front steps (no porch), my neighbors can't see me cause the Honeysuckle is covering the fence. I prefer it that way!

Tara, since you've been here last, I have constructed rails, added some nice pimp-daddy-scare-the-bugs-away candles, and a bottle opener. It's so choice.

In English

"Look at all the tits I can see from my porch!"

I have a screened in patio, that's sorta like a front porch. Sometimes I'll read and take a nap out there. Kinda hot this time of the year though.

We added a porch to the front of our 50's vintage ranch. I sit out there and take detailed notes on my neighbor's comings and goings and forward everything to Homeland Security.

Toooo freakin' hot out there...

A/C on full blast WITH the ceiling fans on 'high'... and a coupla Jynnan Tonnix (Tanqueray, I think).

"I sometimes dig for buttered rolls,
Or set limed twigs for crabs;
I sometimes search the grassy knolls
For wheels of hansom-cabs.
And that's the way" (he gave a wink)
"By which I get my wealth--
And very gladly will I drink
Your Honor's noble health."

If I sit on the front porch I have to watch my trashy neighbors. THe current renter lets her 17 and 14 year olds and all their friends smoke and drink there. Real class there.

I have a wrap around porch. I like to sit out there and play board games with my girls. The set back is 100 feet from the street so I can see my neighbors gardening and playing ball but I can't hear what they are saying. So we all walk out to the street to chat.

We have a nice old-fashioned front porch, but no neighbors to chat with. I'm looking for one of those seats that hang from the joists.

Ours is my favorite place after work; it faces E and is the coolest place in the afternoons when it's hot out.

Another Corona, please, hold the lime...

btw, what's a "anorandak" chair?

Sitting on the porch became popular when the automobile started to become popular. People would sit on the porch and watch the cars go by.

(I learned this in "History of the Automobile in America" at MTU. Nothin' like a meaningless humanities class to get ya through your last semester of school!)

No porch. But, I have a patio surrounded by a 5 foot cedar fence and some shade overhead. The BBQ grill is out there, along with a table, chairs, and the hot tub.

The fence around the yard is only a 4 footer so we can talk to the neighbors when we want. The lilac bushes along the back fence are now about 5-6 feet tall which is beginning to provide some good privacy, shade, and wonderful aroma when they are in bloom.

But no, no porch.

(Big sigh here) I love porches.

Porch trivia:

Why was the front porch brought about?

To give the dogs someplace shady to hang out under?

To give the interior windows shade from the sun?

BTW Buddha, I couldn't help but notice you said...

"I's sitting here with a cool sweaty Corona Light (with a lime) on my porch, lounging on a dark green anorandak chair, enjoying the pure pleasures of no morning appointments,"

Drinkin' in the AM again, ey buddy? HAHA! I get home from work at 8AM and sometimes enjoy a nice light breakfast beer. Something light and tasty like a rolling rock...

To make that first step out the front door less dramatic?
bitpusher

It was because the back of the house was too close to the outhouse and it stunk too much. It was considered a status symbol when someone had a back porch added because it told everyone, “We have indoor plumbing.”.

I’m full of useless facts…among other stuff.
