A Project for Lizs

“So how's it going with those Sierra Clubbers?

Hey, I thought of a great idea. On everyone's next backpacking trip they can collect a sample of soil or water or whatever and send it to you, you can organize them and sent them off to an environmental lab. Might be interesting to see if PCB's or other hazardous whatnot (cow poop?) have migrated to the backcountry yet. The funding can come from you new friends! Start lobbying em right away!”

“lol (and here I thought it would have to do with car camping... dunno why!)

I only went on the one hike with them. Still haven't rejoined. But if I did, I'd send the cow poop to YOU, biz. ;-) Or maybe Buddha Bear...”

“I have a deal here in NM. I'm going to sign up when I get back in August. The forest service has started a Stewardship program in the Santa Fe National Forest where you are assigned a landmark, hike in, document its condition etc. They train you for apprentice archeology among other things.”

“I bet I can come up with the most "PCB's or other hazardous whatnot".”

“I know where there's some hazardous whatnot around here, but the 'hometown security' guys would probably use me for target practice.”

“I could use some good manure for my yard. There's so many illegal dumps and ash pits around this county it's disgusting. Toxicity everywhere, especially around the cheaper areas of town. There was a small illegal dump on our lot when my husbands' family first moved here in the early 80s. I still find stuff floating up, especially carpet and in one area lots of glass.”

“Actually I just remembered something else that used tp float up around here a lot. Unexploded ordinance. Mayport naval station is just a few miles up the road, they used to test bomb out here. THey found a really nice WWII vintage a feww weeks ago a couple blocks north of me too. Cool.”

“...so....lizs is now in charge of cow poop?”

“Treebait, it could be worse, you could be a farmer in the north of France.”

“LOL Bit!”

“"On the farm" I had to slog around in cow and even pig poop feeding the dang animals! (can you say "four-buckle rubber boots??")

There's no one better at handling #&%!$ than me. LOL!

“LOL @ lizs. I spent time on my grandfather's farm as a kid, and yes, shovelling manure.

Maybe that's how we ended up in journalism, eh?”

Of course, that might just be because I miss the old coot.”
