Butter Buds are at any grocery store.

Almost any recipe from "Lipsmackin Backpackin" is good, but I won't try the yellow worms recipe. That's essentially ramen, lemon lime gatorade mix, and whatever as a binder.

1 TSP Tony Cachere's

By the way, if anyone, like me, doesn't mind the cooking time, I usually just boil water for regular rice, cover the pot, wrap it in a fleece and stick it in my sleeping bag for 25 mins or so. Comes out fine. I find that I like it a lot better than minute rice.

No bake cheese cake
We tried this on our family BP over the 4th weekend in the Bighorns.

Get a box of no-bake cheesecake mix. Substitute powdered milk. We brought some margerine in a refillable squeeze tube instead of butter. Just follow the recipie on the box, where it says put it in the fridge, we just put it inside our tent to set up - bout 30 minutes later we feasted - it was EPIC!

Brain Curry
INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons any vinegar
1 pound hiker's brain
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 tablespoons Curry Masala Sauce 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro leaves
salt
SPICES: 2 teaspoons Mild Curry Powder (storbought or homemade)
2 teaspoons Garam Masala (storebought or homemade)
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)

1 Mix the spices with the vinegar, and let stand for a while.

2 Wash the brains, then cut into bite-sized pieces. Place the pieces in a bowl with the spice paste, and enough water to cover. Let stand for 1 hour.

3 Heat the oil in a karahi or wok, and stir-fry the curry sauce for 5 minutes.

4 Add the brains with the marinade and simmer until cooked-about 20 minutes-stirring occasionally.

5 Add the cilantro and salt to taste. Simmer a few minutes more, then serve.

Backpacking Cobbler

12oz dried fruit (mixture works well)
2 Tsp. Brown sugar
1/4Tsp cinnamon
1 3/4C apple cinnamon pancake mix or Bisquick w/ cinnamon and a bit of sugar added
3 1/2 C water

At Home:
Package fruit with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Package pancake mix in a ziplock baggie with instructions to add 1/2C water when preparing.

At Camp:
Add fruit mixture to 3C water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 8-10 minutes to soften fruit. Add 1/2 C water to pancake mix and knead the bag to mix, creating a stiff dough. Cut off a corner of the bag and squeeze the dough on top of the simmering fruit, (make sure here's at least 2 inches of liquid in the pot). Cover and continue to simmer until dumplings have cooked through, about five minutes. Four HUGE servings. Makes a tasty breakfast too.

Twinkles, if you like pesto sauce and tortellini I will bring a tube of Pesto. the tubes are too big for one serving I was going to make it for Friday night. This way you will only have to carry the noodles.

Yeah the grocery store has it in a tube. They also have tomato sauce and anchovie paste. I was going to bring it and a bag of tortellini for dinner on Friday. Maybe with a Garlic roll or two.
What else are you planning food wise for this weekend?

I'm going shopping tonight - if I can find everything this is what I've thought of so far:

Spicy Tuna Rice
Mashed Potatos w/h Beef & Gravy
Sloppy Joes
Chicken & Dumplings

Dehydrated fruit
Oatmeal
PB & J's
Granola/breakfast bars
Beef jerky

A dessert or two for the group...

Now I'm thinking up snack ideas (I'm thinking the luxury item, if I can, will be pringles potato chips)

I don't really know - I get so hungry on the trail - I think on this trip I will be using the stove to also cook lunches....
