Cup o' Tea

“I know several of you are coffee drinkers. There has been many a thread on it. But what about tea? How many of you drink it? Bring it on the trail with you?

I've grown quite partial to Celestial Season's Sleepytime tea, with a little honey added. Good drink to have an hour or so before bed. I'll have the occasional green tea also.”

“Artex, I drink tea some and its easy enough to fix. I used to drink only tea. I'm sure its better for me than coffee, but I got tired of it. When I do drink it I prefer regular lipton or spiced chai. I can make myself choke down green tea for the health benefits, but I doubt I'll ever like it. I learned to drink coffee from my former boss. He got me hooked on it and now I really enjoy it.”

I prefer coffee, but tea is sometimes easier to pack and brew on the trail...some faves are Bengal Spice, Powdered Chai from Borders, and Ginger Twist Green.

“I'm a major tea drinker. The only kind I generally don't like is darjeeling, because most of what I cna get here is cheap. It also doesn't respond well to city water. My favorite is just about anything assam.”

“When I drank Morning Thunder a lot, Yerba Mate was not a "thing". It wasn't in the tea, just two cups of coffee's worth of caffeine.”

“I drink reg tea. Haven't found any herbal tea's that I like. I drink coffee too (on the road) but too much messes with my stomach & gives me anxiety in larger quantities.”

In the summer, I also like to do suntea in a smoked Nalgene bottle - 4 bags of green tea with lemon & ginger and a couple of tbs. of honey. Brew it up and then cool it in the creek for a nice little treat.

“I like Yerba Meta`. It's a lot like tea but brews in cold water and you can get like four cups from one bag. I put two or three bags in a liter of water and was shakin' like a dog shlttin' razor blades! They have very little caffiene but the buzz puts coffee to shame. Tastes like a nice smokey tea.

It was cold out, so it followed that along the line somewhere, I would desire a cup of tea. i told Maple, "As long as we are down here, let me get a nice cup of authentic Chinese Tea." Well, we found lots of places where you can buy the tea. We also found restaurants that would serve tea. But i was looking for just a cup of tea to walk with that i didn't have to go and sit down in a restaurant for. We found one place and it looked right. I ordered the cup and upon paying for it, I notice there is a tea bag string down the side of the cup and it says 'Tetley' on it. So much for that 'authentic' cup of tea for that stop...”

The site said it contained like 1.2 caffiene. Maybe that is more than I thought. Even so it kicks ass and goes much farther than coffee or tea.

The Republic of Tea's British Breakfast tea is good too. Real nice and strong. It's about the only tea I deem fit for cream and sugar.”

“Harney teas produces a really nice Russian caravan tea, but they are pricey. Irish breakfast I got at the grocery store, I think it's Twinings brand, in a green box. Red Rose brand is also really good, and you get a free porcelain figurine in each box.”

“A non-interesting fact for you guys. They say the sterilizing qualities of tea was what allowed London and Tokyo to grow so fast and be so big in the 19th and early 20th century, as it stopped many epidemics.

“Artex I love tea. Sleepy Time is excellent, and it works! Try the Tangerine Zinger it is taste.

I have a special mix that I grew up drinking..make a regular cup of tea, like Lipton, add sugar and some OJ...yummy!!! Honey works as well...ENJOY!”

Treebeard...next time you all are down in Chinatown...if you look hard, there is a place called TenRen tea house. I think its on Mott. not only can you buy some of the best Tea in the world there, but you can get a cup to go. I used to hang out there and drink tea and smoke opium in the back room. It is owned by a very old family, I think they are related to the Manchu family.”

TB...not serious about the backroom opium den...but, I know for a fact that they do exist in Chinatown...I've been in some of the back alleys of Chinatown...not a safe place to go! You'd think you were timewarped into another dimension...In my 20's, I was young and stupid and fearless and went all over the city into places that mere mortals would fear to tread...I'm not kidding, I know alot about the NYC underworld, it makes my hand tremble just thinking of all the places that I crawled into. the stories I confessed to my mother, made her hair turn colors...Glad I survived.”

“Drinking Yerba (not yerba-mate) is a south american pasttime. I imported some of the real stuff from Paraguay. To really drink it properly, you have to buy a cup and spoon/straw thing. You put the spoon in the cup, pack in yerba tightly around spoon, add water, and suck the spoon, add more water, suck, etc. I made the mistake of having several cups of these one evening, and I didn't get a wink of sleep that night.

Daily, in the morning for me: green tea. No more coffee for me - tea is much healthier.”

Nigal, if your from the south you have to drink ice tea but I only drink unsweetened Ice Tea with no lemon but a slice of lime is ok.

I have tried the herbal teas and didn't care for them.

Crazygurl, I use to put honey in my coffee all the time not sure why I stopped doing that.”
