Swimmers on TT?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 37 of 37 messages posted.
How many of you bp'ers love to swim? “A likely topic from the waterfall queen. LOL I've always liked water. Grew up in the woods and swimming in the river or the ocean. I will swim in a pool but prefer the swimming holes in the river. Its been a cooler rainier Summer so far, but how many of you are regulars at getting out and swimming? Its fun and such good exercise. I went swimming Saturday in the plunge pool at Upper Piney Falls. THAT was awesome! It was perfect. Nothing like doing the backstroke beneath a waterfall and looking up at deep blue sky. The falls looked like a shower of diamonds cascading down. I will have some pictures soon. I want to go back there.” 5:41:17 PM 7/14/03 “I learned to swim in Lake Huron, so temps are no big deal for me. I love water and swimming. The funny thing is I live 2 miles from the Atlantic and I hardly ever go to the beach here, generally because of the crowds.” 5:47:34 PM 7/14/03 “I swim, sometimes over 2 miles at my physical fitness club.” 6:44:53 PM 7/14/03 “I swim pretty well, but not very often. It is great exercise. I usually only swim (as in, laps) if I am contemplating a triathlon. But I did swim a few strokes in Hamilton Lake last week in the Sierras. A little chilly, it was. :)” 6:59:38 PM 7/14/03 “I hear Bacpac swims with the fishes.” 7:04:46 PM 7/14/03 “In the summer I swim for a team and practice just about everyday, im pretty good but it's not really my favorite, but now im just about done because the day of the finals i leave for High Adventure in West Virginia :). Also, two weeks ago i swam the mile in the detroit river, now THAT was chilly” 9:22:18 PM 7/14/03 dana... “can I come swim with you sometime???? we wouldn't have to tell your husband.” 11:16:24 PM 7/14/03 “I love to swim. I was born in March, my mother took me to water babies in June when I was three months old. I took swimming lessons and competed until I was 12. Now I backpack to lakes to swim. Lakes are my favorite destinations for backcountry camping/treks. Like waterfalls? Check out this waterfall I accidentally found Waterfall” 11:20:51 PM 7/14/03 “Dana, I swim. I don't like the cold water too much though. It always takes me forever to get in it. Dub, great waterfall. You don't have a name for it?” 8:46:08 AM 7/15/03 “You gotto swim in any suitable pool, the prettier the better. Nothing better on a hot day :o)” 9:01:32 AM 7/15/03 “I swam competively for 8 years. Was a even a lifeguard and an instructor. I still swim in the winter for exercise. I love being in the water.” 9:16:11 AM 7/15/03 “I was practically a fish when I was a kid. Don't have as many opportunities these days. Two varsity letters in swimming (diving). Waterfalls are cool. Saw lots of them on the Sierrapalooza + Yosemite trip.” 9:16:12 AM 7/15/03 Stikmon and Swimming “Sure Stikmon, You come on with me and we'll go swimming. My husband won't give a flip. He'll laugh. You gotta keep up with me though. Everything I do you gotta do, ok? Like dive off the Tremont bridge illegally. You keep first watch for the fuzz( forest ranger, popo) and I'll show you how its done. Then you go next. We'll dive off the Big rock over at The Sinks. We can jump( no diving thanks) off The Steps at the Townsend Wye. You also gotta try out the swinging rope out into Little River and Cedar Creek. We can go tubing next. You should always go down the rapids at LEAST once without your tube. LOL Then we can go ride bikes..... What do you MEAN your tired and the water is cold??!!” 9:25:38 AM 7/15/03 Gemini and Dub “and da resta you-uns! I think its great that there are so many who love the water! Gosh, I'm just a player compared to you more committed, serious like swimmers! Gemini, I heard that! Those NC waterfalls and rivers can be chilly! Skinny Dip Falls was ice water. I think the only place I've gotten in that was colder was Elkmont at the swimming hole where Huskey Branch joins the river. A friend and I got in, turned beet red and got back out! Dub, thanks so much for the link to the beautiful waterfall photos! You are a waterbaby! thats cool!” 9:29:30 AM 7/15/03 “I pack a pair of trunks in the summertime so that I can swim when ever the trail takes me close to a lake.” 9:30:38 AM 7/15/03 “danababy - At The Sinks I've seen many people climb a tree and dive from it, way above the Big Rock.” 10:09:25 AM 7/15/03 “Phil is a diver! Now I understand... lol, j/k” 10:12:41 AM 7/15/03 “Back in my "early years" I used to be on the swim team for the local pool. I did that for about 10 years. Tried the High School team too, but quit because of the "attitudes". That was 25+ years ago and unfortunately I don't get to swim as often as I'd like to.” 10:15:55 AM 7/15/03 “I think the falls are called "Hayden Falls." They are right off the road so if you are ever visiting Columbus, you can hike to the falls in like 5-8 minutes, oh and ah for a few, and be back in your car and on the road in another 5-8. It's on the way to the Columbus Zoo, Wyandot Lake, and the Tuttle Crossings Mall. Not far from OSU's campus either.” 10:23:07 AM 7/15/03 my arms are sore..... “ 5:15:25 PM 12/15/03 “Try surfing in double over head for a couple hours.” 5:16:06 PM 12/15/03 “That's why I was a diver in high school. Practice was fun.” 8:32:41 PM 12/15/03 “My high school didn't have a pool, he!! we didn't even have a track.” 9:21:05 PM 12/15/03 “I've watched the divers (all two of em) on our team, some of the things they do is just amazing. I simply don't have that kind of coordination.” 9:29:21 PM 12/15/03 “howitzer - I was not a good diver, but most everyone else in the league was worse. My friend on the team was a very good diver. He would always place first. I would be second or third. That's how a skinny little nerdy guy could get varsity letters. I found out that many young divers today are converted gymnasts that blew their knees out and such. Interesting impact on the sport.” 12:50:05 AM 12/16/03 “I started swimming last Jan 'cause I wanted to start doing triathlons (did my first in Sept). I've never had any coaching so I kind of suck at it, but I try. Currently, I go to the pool twice a week. I enjoy it but, man, do I hate being cold - and I always get cold.” 7:02:07 AM 12/16/03 “Get a capline swim suit.” 7:04:02 AM 12/16/03 “I love swimming! I swam in high school and wish I had the time to take it up again. Our rec center has a beautiful brand new pool with, get this, a drop out floor for meets! What the heck happened that pools have to be so deep for starts now? One too many broken necks? Anyways, I need some time and some serious disapline to get back in shape enough to keep swimming. It's like meditation once you get in the grove. Love it!” 7:11:20 AM 12/16/03 “So, here it is. The official TT Swimming Club thread. Woo hoo!” 7:21:25 AM 12/16/03 The official TT Swimming Club “I'm ready to enroll. I've been swimming up here in Minnesota. Going to do some more this afternoon. My speed is about one mile (1,760 yds.) per hour. I have yet to hit three miles, but I will soon. My excuse for slowness is that I have to keep my pulse under 130.” 1:28:17 PM 12/16/03 “I took a advanced swimming class in high school. Actually, everyone took it, partially because it was a blow-off class, mostly because the teacher was a HOT 22 year old. At the end, if you received a 90% or higher, you were certified. Our final exam was to complete a mile swim in under 50 minutes. I finished 2nd in 38 minutes. Bet if I tried that again, my time would double.” 1:32:43 PM 12/16/03 “NowSwimmer?” 1:33:53 PM 12/16/03 “Yep!” 1:38:31 PM 12/16/03 “I went to the pool today and put in 2000 meters. It felt really good today. I was pretty consisitant at about 10 mins/500m. Now, if I could half that time... Nowslimmer, what HRM do you use in the pool?” 1:42:12 PM 12/16/03 “HRM ??? If you mean "Heart Monitor," I use my breathing as a guide. If I start puffing too fast, I know from checking during workouts that the pulse is approaching 130. So then I do an easy lap with the breast stroke or kicking on my back.” 1:57:15 PM 12/16/03 sassafras “lol, you're not far off, our pool just got re-done because the starting side wasn't deep enough, its about 8 feet now, only around 4 before.” 4:56:30 PM 12/16/03 “That's something Howitzer. Our high school pool had a three foot depth at the starting end. Now they can't have meets there and the kids have to practice starts in the deep end with portable blocks.” 11:01:51 PM 12/16/03
