Nigal, Do you remember that steak house on US 2 in Upper Michigan you told me about a few years back. I don't generally drive that section of US 2 but a road trip to the Jordon River Pathway took me through there after an accident shut down my usual route. Well, it was an early Friday evening and the place was closed with weeds growing up in the parking lot. :o( That was great steak at a great price. Too bad.

We still have pasties, though! You should try to make it up this way some time. :)

A pasty is a filled one crust pastry, usually savory not sweet. THey're really popular in certain parts of Mi.

sounds like what I would call a turnover ...

which reminds me of a very old bad joke whose punch line is "turn 'er over"

They shutdown the Texans Steakhouse in Myrtle Beach too. It was the home of the 80oz steak. If you could eat the entire steak, the salad, potato, and roll in less than an hour the meal was free. It was always my dream to eat that steak...[sigh]

I was bummed that Old Joe's Bar in Limestone seemed to be closed when I passed by a few weeks ago. I spent a wild night there a few years ago.

Damn! As soon as I saw the title of the thread and who started it I knew what it was, kind of like the old joke, "Your grandma's on the roof.". Birch and sass have told me they have a place near them where you can get pasties but every time I'm up there I forget to get some. Can pasties still be called pasties below the bridge? I tried to order some pasties from pasties.com for christmas but they were backed up for like month.

Pasties and smoked white fish...can there BE a finer meal?

pasty.com is always backed up at Christmas, and they're not shipping anymore this summer, either. they get really busy making pasties for the Minnesota State Fair and don't have the manpower to handle that and the regular orders. the whole site is set up at an old folks home, and its mostly the old folks who make the pasties.

btw, they also have a great "pasty cam" picutre every day of something/someplace in the U.P.

sunny, i'll be in Houghton Aug. 11-15, if you're around! i don't have much of any plans, other than to Copper Country Cruise and play on the water. :))

smiley girl, Make sure you give me a call when you're up! I know I can swing some time to get together. My co-worker should be back to work by then but I don't know if she'll be part time or full time. I'll have to wait and see if I can swing any time off to camp but I'm definately up for some hiking or night life! :)

Hey Peeps, I know where you can get plenty 'o real pasties. In Butte, Montana baby, from Joe's Pasty Shop. Lots of Irish types came to Butte back in the day, so the natives really know how to make the authentic thing. In fact, I have alot of fam. that make arse loads of pasties every X-mas.

That would explain the dentures I found in my pasty
